Please do refrain, nonetheless, from using those terms to describe the situation - it's okay to call out someone for xenophobia, but talks of colonization, invasion, etc... just adds to the negative sentiment, and makes more than the person you replied to uncomfrotable.

You will find that far more europeans sympathize with the turks than feeling any schadenfreude.

Refrain from what? I've been on this site for 6 years, I've made it very clear I'm from Western Europe, he knows very well where I am. His comment is nothing but racist and xenophobic, something you can expect from German and Dutch people, there is a lot of subtle racism here. Nuances we Turks pick up, we're not dumb.

I know you are banned, but i want to ask you something rethorically, as i know the answer.

So, how is this different from anywhere in the world? Europe is actually the most socially tolarant you will find nowadays.

Tell me, how would a dutch or german living in turkey be seen, especially if they don't follow islamic teachings? There will always be a degree of racism from those that come from somewhere else. Don't think you are special because people in your native country do the same exact thing to foreigners, if not worse.

I live in the Netherlands and i come from a west european country and i can feel the same thing you are mentioning. It's not special, and it's not cause of the color of your skin. It's just humans beeing human and an "us" versus "them" protective sentiment. It doesn't justify your reaction. You chose to go to another country, you knew what to expect.

But you know what? Instead of focusing on the people that give you that vibe, perhaps you should focus on the others that actually don't.

Why is it arab countries always end up like this?

I can venture a guess though... Islam.

Guess what? Turkey's not an Arab country. They're a Turkic country like Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.

Sure, if you want to get literal. My meaning of Arab is as in an Islam driven country.

That's not what Arab is. Just say Islamic country if you mean Islamic country. Calling Turkey an Arab country is false.

I already agreed with you. :p

Tbh i wasnt aware until you mentioned it. Given that arab territory belonged to the Ottoman empire until the end of WW1, i was quite surprised they weren't considered part of.

It's probably because they don't speak Arabic as a native language. I'm not entirely sure of the origin of the Turkic tribes, so I can't give you in depth information on that. It's much in the same way that Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan are not Arab countries despite being in the Middle East/Central Asia and having Muslim majorities.

So, Erdogan is now going for death sentence. At this point I don't blame the guy. But I blame the people of turkey for what they have unleashed. You all alone are to be blamed for what you have done to yourself.

Erdogan and his party are right-wing, which is following the world wide phenomena of right-wing ideology/politics gaining traction. (I.E. Trump, Brexit, One Nation and more.)

Sad day for Turkey and democracy in general. Turkey was a great shining example of what the Middle East, heck even the Pacific/Asia region could aspire towards in general.

Nice. Seems I got insulted big time last night by Turkish's cheap shots, ignorism and generalism without knowing about it. Thanks. Really nice read this morning.

Anyway bad news for Turkey.

Everything Europe and Turkey have done over the past year will result in war in Europe. Everything that have been put in place to detere Europe from war over the past 70 yeras have been dismanteled. Shared economy is what kept Europe at peace after WW2 now thats about to go and here comes the autocarcy in Turkey, i have no idea how all of these things combined wont lead to war or conflict in Europe.

The actual intent was to make everyone in this thread aware that he doesn't live in Turkey, so his standard of living isn't going to change. The comments of sympathy he received came across as assuming that he will be heavily affected.

I gotta give it to you, you exposed the truth with one line
