Erdogan and his party are right-wing, which is following the world wide phenomena of right-wing ideology/politics gaining traction. (I.E. Trump, Brexit, One Nation and more.)
Sad day for Turkey and democracy in general. Turkey was a great shining example of what the Middle East, heck even the Pacific/Asia region could aspire towards in general.
