Forums - General Discussion - So, I started my new job today

And I already am starting to feel down. I'm working at Lowe's, which kind of sucks as I have no interest whatsoever in home renovation. Today was orientation, so it wasn't quite bad, but I'm feeling stressed because school exams are coming up and I'm going to have to work a lot, so I'm not going to be able to study as much as I'd like. I have another day of orientation tomorrow, and then I've got a few days of training. I'm going to be a loader, which will probably suck as I'm not in very good physical shape, so I know that I'll be very tired by the end of my shifts!

Heh, I really need to find an internship somewhere.Im just too lazy XD

You will get accoustem to the job.The physical labour is actually good because it keeps you healthy. The problem that I see will be balancing everything out(school, work and hobbies)

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I hope so! I did some manual labour last year during the Summer, and I was so out of shape that I could barely manage! I need to hold on a bit longer for school exams, but after that It'll probably just be work and studying to maintain what I've learned. Of course, I hope that I'll have time to play games too, because the Summer is the time when I mainly play them.

I also started my started my first job (formal, at least) a week ago as a grocer, though I'm not feeling as stressed as you because I'm not going to school right now.

It's not like I love my duties, but time passes fast and I kind of like having to organize everything on a concrete way. However, what I'm definitely not liking so far it's the work environment... My coworkers are a little weird

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Well, it's good that you're getting at least some enjoyment out of it. Maybe I'll be able to get used to it once I start, but I guess we'll see.

I worked Lawn & Garden at Lowes so I did a hell of a lot of loading. All I can say is make sure you have some pain medication because they will work your ass off in the spring and early summer. If you're working outside then it will be non-stop mulch and landscape stones, rain or shine. Get a good pair of gloves and a great pair of shoes.

Loading in the lumberyard is better in some ways because it's in the shade and less work but I hated when I had to fill in over there because contractors are usually assholes. Lawn & Garden is mostly rich women who want a perfect yard and they can be bitches but they're a lot easier to butter up.

Uh oh, I'm getting worried now. I guess I'm at fault for not being in shape.

IMO one of the best jobs to do as a student is working at a movie theater. The hours are flexible, the work is (super) easy, and you get to watch free movies. That's what I did through college and it was awesome. My pay was also well above minimum wage.

I'm in university right now but i've only ever had one job which was business to business marketing which was really fun since I was good at it. I can't imagine doing anything physical as a job. lol

I've had the same job for almost 5 years. Not the best of jobs, but it keeps me interested enough in wearing pants in the morning.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).
