Forums - General Discussion - Iron Fist : Are we going to talk about thé crazy bashing ?

Nobody gives a shit about what film critics think. The show will do fine.

Agree. This is not some Oscars type movie where its chances to sell Blue-Ray's will get effected because it didn't win the awards. It is comic book based show made to binge watch. Will do alright.

I am enjoying it.

Also stop bringing race and politics to everything, people.

Around the Network

I've seen plenty of comic fans and comic websites who like the character Iron Fist who don't like the show.

But I guess if people have a different opinion than you it must be because they are biased.

At some point perhaps the people bashing sjws will realize that they are engaging in the same asinine behaviors.

It seems really weird for me for critics to go "I can't believe they didn't put an Asian guy in the lead of the kung fu show! How racist!"

Especially when you kkow hes supposed to bé white

Madness. Show is good, all that counts.

The fact that Jessica Jones and Luke Cage didn't get poor reviews goes on to show the racism that pervades movie/game criticism.

Is that really why people are complaining!? Wow... Isn't Danny Rand a blonde white guy in the comics anyways?

I've watched like 6 episodes of it so far and it's really good imo, i'm really enjoying it. I would say i'm probably enjoying it more than Luke Cage honestly. (First half of Luke Cage was great, 2nd half really was a let down once you know what happened in episode 7 and how the series went from there). Jessica Jones is the only one of the Marvel Netflix series I haven't watched yet.

Doesn't deserve nearly as much of the negativity it's getting. Obviously it has its flaws (I noticed some dialogue that felt really out of place and some story moments that made either no sense, were poorly explained, or seemed dumb imo for example), but almost all of the other Marvel Netflix series have their flaws too. Honestly almost everything in general will have its flaws, nothing is ever completely perfect.

Edit: I think ShadowSoldier said it best at the time that it's less about implying that it must always be one specific thing but more so just avoiding the trope of casting a white actor in a role where someone else could have gone, but it's also not really my place to comment.

I never read the comics or even heard of Iron Fist. I do like the Marvel Films/shows (except shield tried the first season and was bored to tears). I understand this is a slow burn. A bit slower than Luke Cage/Daredevil but it's been fine to me. My only real gripe is sometimes he is badass and other times a oaf. Maybe he is supposed to be I dunno. I am just used to Marvel Netflix shows having the hero a badass to begin with but struggle in other areas. Still I been enjoying it. Danny is not the smartest hero lol. Doctor says we are going to release him then Danny talks about magical things. Really!? Just say what they want to hear to release you sheesh.

I think some people have a problem with him being white in the comics too, so wanted Netflix to 'fix' it in the show.

It's actually the opposite. Danny is smart highly intelligent and kind of transcends that through his experience. He's been living in another dimension for 15 years under Buddhist philosophy. It would have been completely out of character and unbelievable for Danny to not talk about the magical things because it would be against his philosophy to lie or not be honest. Sure he has anger issues but his philosophies make it quite hard to adapt to our world. He isn't a materialist person in a world ran by materialism. He turned down 100 million dollars because his name and identity holds far more meaning than 100 million dollars. What good will that money do him when he dies? His mind set is completely different than the average person in a western culture.

The this biggest problem with the themes of this show doesn't lie within the show itself, but rather the lack of knowledge of the subject matters with the critics. I remember reading one review mentioning that the show has no theme, when in fact it does as I had just mentioned it and it's apparent within the first episode through Danny's actions and philosophy.

Also why didn't the critics do their research? They are complaining that a White American male is playing a White American male? LMFAO WHAT FUCKING STUPIDITIY IS THIS? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Fist_(comics) Damn, I'm only 3 episodes in but so far the show has been incredibly close to the source material, perhaps more than the others.
