Forums - General Discussion - Rude customers

I go into my local gamestop to see what's up. Before entering, I saw the terrible $500 Switch deal. I could care less though, as I didn't even want to buy anything switch related.

Unfortunately, other people had something else in mind. These two people started cursing at the employees for supposedly holding the Switches from customers.

I asked the employees, and they said many people have said some terrible things in response to the bundle. As expected as it is, it's rather terrible for people to just tear apart an employee who has no say in what happens.

That's the end of my short rant.

It sucks, but very often front-line employees become the face of a company's terrible practices, even when they have nothing to do with it. People want to complain, and it's easier to do that to a person than an entity.

I did a short stint in online customer service for a game company when I was studying in Japan, and I would get emails from angry players saying the most heinous things. It's easier to laugh about it when it's just an email though, much worse when it happens in person :/

Disappointing! Was expecting examples and anecdotes. Not just "they said some terrible things". What things?

Can't say I really have much experience with seeing rude customers though so can't really add anything. Just came here to laugh at other people's examples

Well, they insulted his weight :/ add in 20 swear words every sentence, and that's basically what happened.

Very low insults that showed the pettiness of the customer. I get people want a switch, but is it really worth being an asshole to others?

I just laugh when customers get like that towards me or one of my employees.

Like, you had a chance of appealing to me by befriending me... But instead you decide to make an angry jackass of yourself? Bravo.

maybe employees that have to take care of unhinged customers should get some sort of hazard bonus (it can have psychological effects to be exposed to that kind of toxicity)

Been a long ass time, well almost a decade since I had to be in the workforce. I was a manager at GS when PS3/Wii launched. First few months were fun. Kinda fell apart when we had to sell Microsoft Zune. Anyway. In my state you can carry a firearm out in the open. I had a guy come in with a 44 mag just hanging outside his belt. Thought I was going to get robbed. No he just funny enough wanted GTA SA (was hard to find then because HC) The launch of Gears of War was no doubt a big one. Well the UPS guy left our delivery by mistake on the loading dock in another state. A black guy came in for his pre order and I tried to explain. He leaped over the counter grabbed me and threatened me.I was scared but kept my cool and he did chill out.

I did a midnight release on some WOW expansion in January 2007. We were only set up for WOW pre orders. Nothing more. Some shithead cut in line wormed his way to the front and tried to sell a new Guitar Hero 2 on PS2 for cash. We rightfully told him to GTFO. While not a customer I got off work one day in the afternoon and started to walk home. A homeless dude ran up to me and asked me to help him as another dude ran up with a knife pinned that guy to the wall and looked at me and gestured to me he was going to kill me. I ran in the store a few feet away had them call the police. Other dude was not killed as Security broke it up. I later was a witness in courts and I played Ace Attorney in the DA office.

Side note. The story about the Nintendo DS surviving Mt Everest. That is a story I been telling for 11 years. Those guys told me that story as they were in my store and told us.

I took my wife to dinner one day. The people behind us had the same waiter. He was great but no matter what he did, the people behind us were pissed. The complained about everything. When my wife and I left, we gave him a big tip. $50, I think. We left a note saying "You were awesome."

Waiters always deal with rude customers- it's rather terrible, especially when you see people complain about their 99% finished meals just to avoid paying. I have seen people not pay for their meals because they cry like five year old kids. There's also the people who argue about putting tips in. Never thought people could be so stingy.
