I hope you're fine with an IPS display, because it will take quite a few years before we get OLED monitors (big problems with burn-in).

Also, be careful. Most monitors aren't HDR10 compliant, despite offering some sort of HDR.

Yeah I know...  (solemlny shakes head)

That is why I am expecting to likely have to wait until next year before I upgrade my monitor.

I almost pulled the trigger on the newer ASUS Gsync IPS monitor until I learned they are still using an 8-bit panel with color dithering to achieve 10-bit(like) color scale. There are other true 10-bit IPS panels that meet all but 1 requirement, that being GSync, but if I am going to drop $500-$800 on a monitor it needs to have every feature I want. However, now that HDR is on its way into the PC market I it only adds another must have feature. Being an A/V nut with high standards does not help my wallet one bit.

Well, there were a couple of monitors announcet CES that would meet all your needs, and them some.

Of course, there's a big problem, that they're rumored to be $2,000

They will cost around $1,200 which in all honestly I would not mind spending  knowing that I won't need a new monitor for at least 5-7 years.

However the new monitors by both Acer and Asus are in my So Close, but So Far Away category. They are UHD (4K) monitors when I want/require a QHD (22560x1440) monitor. At the rate of GPU advancement it will still take 2 generations if not more before a single card can run 4K at 60fps+ with all graphical features enabled on the majority of  new and upcoming games. For me SLI is not worth the cost since you rarely get more than a 30% gain in FPS and I don't like to go through trouble of enabling and disabling SLI whenever I wish to play an older title.

Yeah, I know, I am picky, but being picky as I am helps me get the best possible experience for me.

Will be i7 6700 and RX 480 next month.

Why would you be buying such a PC at this point? I mean, unless you're getting a crazy deal, it's a bad call to buy this stuff at this point. And this comes from an i5 6600k user, who barely dodged buying the RX 480 (in favour of the upcoming VEGA obviously). Wait for more Ryzen info and Intel's reaction (it's bound to happen). Wait for Vega. You won't regret it and it's not a long wait, if you plan to buy in a month either way.

It's a crazy deal, obviously i would wait otherwise. I still plan on updating the GPU, give the 480 to my bro because i'm so nice.

That's not being picky, that's knowing what you want/need and accepting nothing less (or more) than that. And that $1,200 that was talked by Asus after the announcement was later confirmed to not be true.

And I'm not a fan of multi-GPU solutions either, so I understand that the cons outweight the pros for you, as they do for me.

Just recently upgraded my PC. Added ram, went from 8gb 1600 mhz to 32gb 2333 mhz, added a WD blue SSD to run OS and Games, and upgraded my GPU from a R9 270X to a MSI Gaming X RX 480... my full specs are in my signature. I hope these upgrades will let me play 1080p at more than 60 fps for some time. thoughts?

You have a very similar config to mine, you just have more memory and a different GPU, but it should suffice for 1080P at 60FPS for at least a couple years.

The only downside is there are already games coming out that you will not be able to enable all the frills on and get 60FPS. GTAV and Watchdogs 2 are two of such games.

Core i5 4670k
16 GB DDR3 Ram (kingston xfury)
2x GTX 980 Strix in SLI
1 SSD Samsung Evo 240 GB
1 HDD barracuda 4TB
1 HDD caviar blue 1 TB
1 Blu ray Burner
1 ROG motherboard Maximus VI
3x Samung 22" monitor @1080p each. (5670x1080)
1 keyboard razer blackwidow
1 gaming keyboard logitech w/lcd screen

Thats my command center pretty much.

Nice upgrade.

You're probably noticing the PC a lot faster thanks to that SSD. As for the GPU, you won't be able to play every game at ultra settings, but you'll be able to play them on high for several years.

@Knitemare: SLI and Surround? You're really serious about gaming.

Well, I knew getting the RX 480 was just enough to play most games on high settings at 1080p, some even at 1440p but 4k is a different beast and I'm not upgrading to 4k anytime soon, the fact that I can still play AAA games at 1080 will keep me busy for the next couple of years.

@JEMC
Thanks man, you are right it actually runs like new. As for the GPU, for the price range of the RX 480 that performance is still pretty good.
