This should help ground the score.

Wii U 8.0 http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/11/30/wii-u-review-2014
3DS 7.5 http://www.ign.com/articles/2011/03/19/nintendo-3ds-review
New 3DS 8.8 http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/11/21/new-nintendo-3ds-3ds-xl-review
PS4 8.4 http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/11/21/playstation-4-re-review (+1 one year review)
XBone 7.8 http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/11/27/xbox-one-review-2014 (+1 one year review)

So a 240p handheld that was about as powerful as a PSP with a useless 3D effect gimmick that costed $250 gets a 7.5/10? Lol. And lol at the Wii U score.

Great to see you think the 3DS and Wii U suck like a true Nintendo fan.

Not really when you look at their PS4 & XBone scores too, i.e. Wii U > XBone, New 3DS > PS4.

Also the concept of review scores on game consoles is hilarious.

Yeah, this, I completely understand giving impressions and such, but an actual score just seems arbitrary. Most consoles are made by their game libraries, which you can't really score on day 1.

IGN comes off as a bit overly harsh, I think. Like some of the other users, I prefer Digital Foundry's more balanced approach.

I don't get the "not pocket-able = not portable" comment. Are iPads, eReaders, and laptops not portable? It fits easily in a backpack or messenger bag for a flight, road trip, or playing on public transit. Doesn't that cover like, 90% of portable play scenarios?

Don't get me wrong, I really like that the 3DS was pocketable, and sometimes I did slide it in my pocket. But mostly it lost out on pants real estate to my phone, keys, and wallet.

I was being sarcastic :P

Considering that the Wii U version of BOTW doesn't run as smooth, and you can't take it anywhere, I think 300 for the Switch is fair. People don't understand that this is new tech in many ways, allowing anywhere near Xbox One graphics portably is a feat in itself. There's physics and logic that go into why the Switch costs what it does. 300 isn't just some number they came up with on the spot.

People will be negative about the Switch at launch, the same happened to 3DS. But once the games start coming, I'm a lot of the complaints will be quelled. I do have my concerns about the ergonomics of the controller (then again 3DS wasn't the best for my hands either and I still played the hell out of it), and yes the kickstand isn't placed in the most optimal position, battery life could be better, and storage isn't the best. Then again, find me a portable device with even a 500GB hard drive in it, that's as small as the Switch...it's just not going to happen. Just get an SD card and swallow the pill, or just buy physical, it's not like there aren't options.

There are definitely ups and downs, but I'm more concerned with the games that come to it.

Yea, I mean my tablet I purchased for like $500 had I thnk 16gb in it. I could have paid an extra $100 for double the size, but I instead purchased a $128gb sd mini for that $100.

It's rediculous how many of the "major" complaints that gamers have with the Switch are they want like 500gb of space, powerful as a PS4, and a 10 hour battery or something, oh and smaller so it fits in pocket.

Let's say doing that is even possible at the current size, let alone smaller. Do they realize how much that sucker would cost?

Wow. What a hater.

Mindlessly bashing so many good games.

How is he a hater?

He bought the 3DS at launch when it was $250. Most people would call that "fanboy".

Personally I don't think $80 amortized over six years of great games is that big of a deal, but he has a right to be peeved if he wants to be I think.

Not a great review, but nothing surprising either. We knew it was not a powerful home console, far from it, and the battery is not great for portability for a big game.

People may want to tell themselves it's just IGN to make them feel better, but these criticisms aren't unique amongst the other reviews.
