Forums - General Discussion - Bill Maher is a bloody hypocrite

http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/tv/ct-bill-maher-milo-yiannopoulos-minors-20170224-story.html

This isn't even about left or right anymore. How can he act like a righteous judge when he himself said much worse things? It's rather hypocritical and shameful that we attack people for changing their opinions on topics (e.g hillary on homosexuality) and yet we are perfectly fine with those who go against what they preach.

Maher's comments are disgusting. I don't know which one had worse comments, but either way I just can't believe people can say such things.

Shameful how we have become so low in today's worlds. Ever since 2016, it's clear that the media has taken a huge hit.

(please do not start a political discussion on who is more evil- I'll ask to lock the thread if it reaches that point)

Bill Maher is just a disgusting person. I agree with a couple of his stances, but he's more about hearing his biased crowd cheer for him than he is about having an honest debate. And to actually take credit for Milo's downfall, when he had nothing to do with it, proves this. Just as him saying a boy of 12 having sex with his 34 year old teacher is just the two being in love, and that men/boys can't be raped, proves how disgusting he is. Makes you wonder what devious things he may be doing/thinking of doing with 12 year olds, since he sees it as just being true love.

My mom watches Bill Maher. He is such a smug liberal that it is hard for me to stand him. He is way too apologetic of Obama/Hillary Clinton, he is ignorant of Muslims (he ignores the socio-political aspects and just pits everything as "West vs. Islam"), etc.

Here is what I don't get:

Whenever Islam and marriage is mentioned, he turns into the priest and says it is immoral

When it comes to this, it is perfectly fine, with men being unable to be raped (?)

Such contradictions

I'm fine with him. I loved Religioulous or whatever that film he made was called.

And this is where we run into the problems we face today.  Too many people see one or two things a person says or does and that's what bases their entire opinion of a person.  If you like those couple of things, the guy/gal is golden pretty much forever.  You dislike those things, and they are forever "bad" in your eyes.  It really needs to stop.  This mindset is how we got the 2 worst candidates for president this past election.  It's why we will continue to get bad candidates in the future.

And it's the same thing for people defending Milo, even though his comments were just as bad as Maher's.  Hell, I guess I could make the argument Milo's weren't quite as bad.  He actually was sexually abused, which probably led to his opinion on the issue, however wrong it is.  If I had to guess, I'd say he also believes a man can be raped.  What's Maher's excuse?  He likes the looks of 12 year olds having sex (he did say the only bad thing about it is we didn't have the sex tape) and thinks they are actually mature enough to process everything going on at that time?

He's also a warmonger. For example, in this video he supports the Vietnam War and the death of troops, even if they have no strategic importance, just to just a point. Yeah, I doubt that he'd want to get killed in action just to show a point.

The law is the law.

But "adulthood" is not defined by a specific age. Adulthood is not something tangible like going Super Saiyan:

where you can see a visual difference between a "then" and "now". Not SS: black hair, Super Saiyan: yellow. Adolescent: ????, Adult: ????

Fact is that there are people who don't seem to have the mental capicity to handle their sexuality responsibly and with owneship even after they reach their age of consent, fact is that there are people who grow up faster than others and can become mature enough to make decisions regarding their sexuality.

Age of consent doesn't take any of this into account, age of consent is just a blanket law that makes us feel better about our society and give us a sense that we are protecting children, which of course is important and we should totally do.

There are countries where minors who have sexual relationships with others have no legal consecuences. It isn't the act that is forbidden, but the age of one of the partners what can land someone in prison. We are trying to protect minors from being coerced and manipulated into sex, which is something important, but there is no effort or mechanisms to evaluate whether both minors really didn't know what they were doing and if one of them, in spite of being a minor legally, acted with malice and coercion over the other minor. We just take their age as enough argument to consider both innocent, what is completely hypocritical.

If the act of a minor having sex is not what we are trying to evade (because no legal actions are taken against minors having sex with each other) and what we are trying to evade is coercion and manipulation from an adult, we should do a case by case research and find out whether the minor was mentally mature to consent or not.

I don't think Maher made the above claim and took that stance from an informed position. I tend to agree with Maher most of the time, this time I don't.

The sad thing is that he is obviously just playing politics here.  Vietnam was entered, beyond an advisory role, by Kennedy and ramped up exponentially by LBJ, both Dems, so I guess to Maher that automatically makes the war just.  And it's ridiculous for him to suggest Reagan had nothing to do with ending the Cold War.  I mean what does the Vietnam War, which ended with us withdrawing in 1975, have anything to do with the Cold War ending almost a decade and a half later?  Especially when it was reescalating during the Carter and early Reagan administrations.  Completely biased.

People should know by now that Bill Maher, is a comedian
