I dont see how anyone can come to that conclusion. Wii U had a huge emphasis on getting western AAA PS3/360 ports while Switch has a much larger focus on small-medium Japanese, indie & kid/family software.

And no, its nothing like Vita/PS3. Saying that Vita/PS3 connectivity is similar to Switch is like saying N-Gage was similar to iPhone.

It's the same concept as the Wii U, but it's a full fledged portable now. Even video kojima admitted that the switch reminded him of an evolution of what Sony was trying to do with the PS3 and the vita where you could take your hd games you play on your PS3 on the go. I will agree that the portable aspect will make the console more attractive to Japanese people who like mobile gaming

So its the same but different? Alrighty then.........

Its infinitely more streamlined and accessible than Vita/PS3 connectivity so they are not directly comparable, just like N-Gage & iPhone or Virtual Boy & Playstation VR or Power Glove & Wii Remote are not directly comparable and the failure of one means nothing for the other.

I think it would have serve their cause better as a pack-in title with the console. I don't know how many people will be compelled to find the time and opportunity to try it somewhere, or roll the dice on actually buying it without trying it. People are largely followers though, and if it manages to gain some momentum, it could start to drive interest and sales. I don't expect it to have the appeal or success of Wii Sports. I'm not sure that many games could.

I think it eventually could be.  With March being a Zelda/soft launch with few apps ready etc, the focus is on the core, early adopter.  By holidays Nintendo should market toward family/party games etc and possibly have 1-2 pre-installed or given a DL code.

With such a thin launch line up, I can't blame Nintendo for trying to make money.    Now If 1-2 gets positive feedback, as a low-key must have/system seller, I have no doubt it will in fact be included  to help value proposition, (instead of having a price cut by the holidays).  If Nintendo can satisfy their main goal  to sell through their projection and avoid price cuts, they'll be relieved in Kyoto hq and officially get their mojo back.  .

I think it'll be a great party game, but I don't think it'll be that successful due to high price tag and not being a pack-in. Not enough owners will have it to have the same Wii Sports word of mouth.

I agree that its more accessible than the Vita PS3. I was just saying that I agree with Hideo Kojima when he said that t he Switch seemed to himlike n evolution of what the Vita/ PS3 combo was striving for a gen earlier.  In fact, their patent for a switch-esque portable was leaked recently .This means between Sony and Nintendo we were already headed in this direction. Nintendo made the Wii U portable and Sony was doing the same. It was only a matter of time before one of them reached it first. Glad it was  Nintendo because they are better at portables quite frankly.

Sony handheld patent that looks like the switch from two years ago.

I'd like to see Nintendo make a game under the principal of "gather around the Switch anywhere" concept but without the somewhat tired trope of mini-game + making you do something that makes you look stupid for most of its entertainment appeal.

Koizumi in one of his interviews mentioned card games like poker and how they have a social component because you have to look at your friends ... well maybe something in that vein ... something a bit more serious, but still social and fun, without the crutch of it being so "goofy".

In other words I'd like to see Nintendo do something genuinely more original than the Wario Ware/Wii mini-games concept.

Yeah I think Sony would've made this device had the Vita not flopped (or it was in effect going to be Vita 2).
