Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Will Breath of the Wild finally dethrone Ocarina of Time for people? Let's look at the facts

In general? Maybe. Personally though, no way. I don't think any Zelda game will ever come close to surpassing Ocarina of Time/Skyward Sword (My two absolute favorite games in the series). Also, as much as I'm excited for Breath of the Wild, they made so many changes to the Zelda formula that I'm still not sure if I'll like it or not, only time will tell really.

Err.... If the last main 3D Zelda game managed to reach the level of OoT, according to you, why wouldn't another upcoming Zelda game reach that same level?

Somehow, your comment doesn't make sense to me...

Mostly because of all the changes they made to the formula. I think some of them are welcome, but others I didn't like that much (Voice-acting, getting rid of hearts, etc). I have this weird feeling that I'll love it as a game in general, just not as a Zelda game, if that makes any sense.

This comparison seems to rely heavily on the assumption that a set of good features makes a good game. Unfortunately the whole is much more than just the sum of its parts.

I'm not saying BotW isn't going to be the best Zelda game, I'm just saying this is a rather pointless comparison in my opinion. Of course there's not much else to base such a comparison on before actually playing the game, but still.

What does that even mean? xD

OoT was amazing, I disliked MM, but liked TP more and Skyward Sword is my favorite because the story was amazing (especially the ending). I'm hoping they continue with making a grand story this go around.

Skyward Sword was basically the origin story of Zelda, so from a storyline perspective it can't really be beat (the only link before the skyward sword one was the one in the hyrule historia manga, if memory serves me, so that would be silly to do a game on).

It can't be beat because it's the origin story of Zelda?

That kind of logic would suggest that Star Wars Episode 1 can't be beat...

OoT has something on its side. There weren't nowhere near as many haters as there are today. BOTW can be the best game to date (it's yet to be seen) but haters are going to trash it no matter what and that's going to affect its score.

I also love SS I never understood the hate around it. My top 3 are: Ocarina, Skyward and Twilight.

I guess for me, it's already been dethroned, as it's not even one of my fav Zelda games. That would go to Majora's Mask, and the only other game I enjoyed as much as that was A Link Between Worlds. So Breath will have to compete with those.
