Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Possible 2D Metroid hint ?

So I expected people to notice it from this video but since people got scared about Zelda spoilers in this thread (despite there not beeing any actual spoilers for Breath of the Wild) I'm just gona say it here: during the interview the interviewer takes 3 cups and puts a coin under one of them to then play the shell game, Aonuma and Miyamoto guess wrong but beneath the cup they chose there was a piece of paiper with "2D Metroid Please" written on it. Now, since the game was obviously staged I think this might be a hint at what's coming for the Metroid Franchise. What are your thoughts ? would you be ok with the next Metroid beeing a 2D one instead of Metroid Prime 4 ?

The shell game starts at 1:28

2D Metroids are gone since the GBA era, 3D ones since the Wii, 2D Metroid is needed more.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

After playing that amazing Metroid 2 remake, I definitely need more 2D Metroid in my life!

I hope so! Even if it's just a 3DS game, but I would really love a Switch version.

I think if Metroid was to make a return it'd be a 3d entry, but they're making a 2d pikmin game. So really anything can happen.

I would love a new 2D iteration of Metroid. It's been 13 years and everyone is ready for them to continue the story after Fusion. My dream would be for them to do dual releases of 3D and 2D versions like they did in 2002. But that's probably asking too much.

I remember Miyamoto saying a couple years ago that they were planning a future for 2D and 3D metroid so I remain hopefuk. But then, I try to keep my expectations tempered with Nintendo. They're not always known for giving metroid fans what they want.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

I enjoyed Super Metroid a lot so I'd be down with that. If only that rumored 2D Metroid game was what NextLevelGames was working on instead of Federation Force.

Oh, I bet NLG is likely working on MP4 right now, I mean who got more "advice" and criticism on what they've done than NLG ? They got so many guidelines by fans complaint that they can make an amazing 3D Metroid...

Comparison doesn't make much sense as Metroid started as a 2D game and all the 2D entries were well received.

I would LOVE to see a modern 2.5D Metroid game on the Switch. I still want a First Person Adventure game as well of course.

NLG isn't nearly talented enough to make a good MP4. They should stay far away from the Metroid franchise. Let them make Luigi's Mansion 3 or another Mario Strikers game.

Since when is making a shitty game a prerequisite to making a good game?
