Forums - Sales Discussion - Resident Evil 7 global stats (sales discussion)

4 million is probably what they expected to ship at retail + pre-sell digitally. Im still skeptical about these numbers. The game will open with 200k+ in Japan at retail alone (based on COMG preorders) doubt that it will do under 1 million first week globally. Hell IMO 1.5 is still fairly doable. Pretty standard selltrough for first week for a fairly large franchise if you ask me.

Also reviews are very positive. That will probably affect the legs in a positive way as well. 5 million + this year alone IMO is in the bag.

You know what?.....good! I'm not saying the game isn't good, but it could have easily been another brand game and not had the resident evil title.
Big corporations are so out of touch with gamers it's untrue...
Their logic

Make a fantastic game
Make an even better sequel
Make several more successful chapters
Change the style, lose older generation of fans and prey on the new for the "cool factor"
Make 2 poorer sequels to it
Change style again.... Look at abysmal sales and wonder what went wrong

Go back to the original style you f%*ckin@ idiots
You have a chance to do this with the remake of resident evil 2.......... But I guess you will mess that up too

from what i have seen it is pretty similar to the original Resident Evil games just with a different perspective

Do you really look at the change of style for Resident Evil 4 as a bad thing? I mean just looking at RE4 itself and not what the series became in 5 and 6.

I love the old school RE games. They're among my favorite to play. But we got six great games in that style (1,2,3,CV,REmake,0). Resident Evil 4 was a bold and exciting new direction at the time. And it was a really great game.

I'd love to see more old school RE games, but not at the expense of developers trying new things.

It's really not.... Did you play resident evil 1-3? or code veronica?

Should have Oculus and Vive support from beginning and it would sell to pretty much every owner of these systems but yeah, even then it would be low.

Now they will add support for these systems when the game will be already much cheaper so that revenue on PC will be lower as it would be. Well...

I think it has a ton in common with the old games. The first one especially.

-One fixed location

-Item scarcity and an emphasis on scavenging for supplies

-Light puzzle solving

-Inventory management

-Files and flavortext

-Backtracking with new keys or items to open up previously closed off areas

There are some major departures for sure. First person. A completely different take on combat. An original story. But RE7 is a game about an evil residence and in that sense, it's more like the first game than almost any other.

You need to complete prologue to be part of the family.

So 10¨% playing it on VR, good start.

It will probably hit 4 million like Capcom wanted it to eventually, it's an amazing game.
