Forums - Movies & TV - Sony considering selling off TV and Movie business

Well if they would put new, more capable people in charge, they wouldn't put such terrible movies out and could actually make a profit. In the past few years, Columbia pictures has very obviously put the crappiest movies out among the top 5 distribution companies. They make worse and worse movies every year, and this year for them was absolutely awful. They didn't have a single major hit. All the heads of Columbia Pictures need terminated and they need to start new with actual talent.

It would suck to see the tv business go, but I get that. However, the movie business could be a massive money maker if they were just a little less retarded. Losing Spider-Man would be a massive loss.

They should make better movies.

And scheadue things better, Bond Siderman Venom and there ya go good for 3 years.

Its good news. Sony needs to ditch all dead weight and focus on their banking and insurance companies. That is where their money has been for years.

They shouldn't rely on consoles however. I have a feeling in the future games will be stream like t.v. If this the case, all the big third parties can come up with their own streaming service. This will hurt both Microsoft and Sony.

Most peopel wont be signing up to 20 different services, they want all on one.  PS is the only obvious anwser as far as gaming.

I'm actually not a fan of this. It looks like they are turning around their Pictures segment (even though their AAA-movies are mostly shit, quite a lot of their smaller movies are great, and their TV-channels etc. have shown tremendous revenue growth). If they slim down too much, they'll have nothing to support them if one of their other divisions were to fall.

EDIT: They could sell of only Sony/Columbia pictures though.

Sony's been losing massive money from their electronics division (TV/ phones / etc.) for years and their entertainment/media side of things has really struggled in recent years compared with the past (just look at how the awful Ghostbusters remake bombed at the box office).

They should focus on the video game division and maybe specific electronics where they excel. At this point I'm not even sure what divisions outside of gaming do well for Sony, a few years back it was reported that the majority of Sony was doing badly

Their gaming division may taken a huge hit with vr.

How do you take a huge hit when you sell through all manufactured devices, and you have already stated that they would be sold at profit from day one? All research and design has been paid along the way, now they are actually starting to make a return. The marketing has been very light, and the attatch ratio is super high. I'm not sure how you even came up with this idea.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

If it wasnt, they wouldn't be making multiple movies on the same cinematic universes every year. Everyone is jumping in on that. Even Universal.

If the movie is worth watching, people will pay to see it. I really don't agree that people seeing a movie in poor quality online = a missed sale. I think it wouldn't be a sale either way. So, i doubt that's affecting anyone majorly, but is no doubt a great excuse for failure.

Dude, why are you bringing up cinematic universes? As if mentioning that makes my post invalid. Margins on movies are low. They use them to sell merchandise mostly. Universal made a profit of $1.2B in FY 2015 despite have 3 movies in the billion dollar club.

In any case, I'm not sure what you are arguing.

I'm arguing that no one of note is struggling with these imaginary lost sales of people watching stuff online for free.

Maybe their Emoji Movie or the wrestling all-star Surfs Up 2 can save them......yeah, they should probably just sell now.

The Barbie movie with Amy Schumer will save them.

I swear that woman hypnotize people to make them think shes funny. Shes the worst comedian Ive ever seen.

According to Wikipedia, Aniplex is owned by Sony Music Entertainment Japan, so it's safe.
