Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Aonuma says Zelda: Breath of the Wild doesn’t have an option for dual audio

Perhaps the use of vocaloids, a made up language, like that used in Gravity Rush with subtitles would have been a better option. Then we would know what the spoken Hyrulian language sounds like. Nintendo has invented a written Hyrulian language, why not a spoken one too?

I actually prefer that, personally. One universal language for everyone.

Just as long as it's not that auto-tuned voice that Fi had.

Yeah, I agree. Aside from language preference, you'll much much more commonly find that Japanese voice actors have more range to their voice acting, and that comes from experience. In Japan voice acting is a serious carreer that people go to VA school for at a young age. Wheres in the west many voice actors simply stumbled upon it in an add and decided to audition, because why not. I have some English voice actors I hold in high regard, like Crispin Freeman (he prefers Japanese VA as well, ironically), but for me chances of being disappointed in the Eng cast overall is very high in dubs because I hold them to a standard comparable to Japanese VAs.

I should probably specify that I'm mostly talking about voice overs of Japanese material, since I actually don't mind most voice acting in Western media, like the Simpsons or Futurama. There's also Disney movies, where it's common for big actors (ex. Mel Gibson in Pocahontas or Kevin Spacey in Bug's Life) to appear as characters. Honestly, if voice actors like this appeared in dubbed anime and games more often, I probably wouldn't care so much about having dual audio as an option.

I am curious if it's an industry problem, or what the deal is. I remember reading something when the Tales of Symphonia spinoff released, and they replaced a voice acting cast popular in Western cartoons, like Scott Menville, with more common anime voice actors, supposedly due to a union issue. Whatever that means.

Not a huge deal for me personally but still wish it would be an option. English VA didn't really sell me

I like the English voice overs, so I'm fine.

Why are people mad lmao it's not like you know how to speak Japanese. English VA looks fine

If there isn't much dialogue then it should be fine. From that trailer, its only Zelda's voice that is worrying.

I think Zelda sounds fine the more I hear it. I think I can hear her natural voice underneath her upset voice and I like what I hear.

I don't mind English VA as im often too lazy to read the text, my gf on the other hand won't play games unless they are with Japanese VA, shes the same with anime.

I'm the opposite, too impatient to wait for VA. I turn on subtitles so I can click to the next line before the voice actor is halfway through his/her slow mumbling. It might as well be Japanese so it doesn't interfere with me reading :) Or just turn voices off. I hope it's not like other Zelda's where the text appears painfully slow as if you're taking a second grade reading class.

Btw this reminds me of Wii Fit on the WiiU. The metric/imperial system was tied to system language. If you wanted to see your weight in pounds you had to set the system to French (Canadian), or English (Canadian) for Kg. Which incidentally is the wrong way around as well. If you're not letting people make their own choices, at least get it right...

Speaking of VA, I am a huge HUGE fan of the film 'Princess Mononoke'. I wonder how many people will get angry at me if I admit I prefer the English dub to the Japanese one?

Import then.

I don't care much about this, but shouldn't this be fairly easy to add to the game?

Such drama. No problem here, because the Japanese voice sucked anyway. I already said it hurt my ears, I don't get why people are so over the moon about it, English one is better.

Sure, options are good and it seems like it would be a ten-minute fix if the files are on there anyway but let's not act like it's the end of the world here.

The English Acting was actually pretty solid, especially the dark skinned character with the white beard (I don't think we know who he is yet).

Not sure why they made this decision, but if it reduces the size of the game, then I'm fine with it.

Or in his case, the only way to address anything negative said about what he likes.

Nah, what Veknoid posted was reasonable. This isn't a topic that is deserving of respect, so mockery is the correct course of action.

Believe it or not, you're not the authority on what is respectable or not on VGC.
