This... this is a joke thread right? As much as I respect the thread title, the second part is like nothing but troll lol.

I think the point he was making is that Horizon might effect public outlook of BOTW if it turns out Zelda isn't a fully modern open world game.

The example he used was how fully realized the world is. If Horizon really nails it's world and gives people a strong lore and lots to do, then Zelda comes out and is a little barren and a little empty, are they going to have Horizon in the back of their mind while they play it.

Mind you, he was saying that IF they were to have any effect on one another at all, that's what he considers more likely.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Both will sell. That's for sure.

Think about it- Breath of the Wild is a RELEASE TITLE. Assuming that 50% of people will want a game to go along with their console, they'll go for the biggest title in the beginning of 2017. The Wii U will probably get an additional 1-4 million units sold as well.

Horizon Zero Dawn certainly has hype. It also has a 55m user base. Sony has advertised it a lot. I am certain it will be as loved as Uncharted 4 (unless it pulls an Ubisoft on us).

overall, both will do well. I'm sure of it.

If it does Uncharted 4's kind of sales, it would sell almost twice as much as Skyward Sword for example.

That wouldnt mean it got overshadowed.

The only way it gets overshadowed is if people skip BotW for the sole purpose of getting Horizon, which i dont see happening.

People who want BotW will get it, people who want Horizon will get it, people who want both will get both & people who want neither will get neither, sinple as that.

I'm not talking maily sales here, I'm talking more about the public perception and critics/medias talking point for the period of release in the same way The Witcher 3 blew up and recieved more acclaim than the "sure to be great" new bethesda RPG, fallout 4.

...or will Horizon get a quick week of buzz which it is unable to sustain while BOTW overshadows it a week after release. BOTW is no less safe than Horizon...remember skyward sword?

See the Skyward Sword example has some flaws.  One is that it was not all that overshadowed; it was runner up to Skyrim in many of the most recognized game of the year award competitions.  It also came at the twilight of the Wii after the Wii U had been announced.

Breath of the Wild is much more comparable to Twilight Princess which took a huge chunk of awards and praise in its release year despite going up against Oblivion and other strong contenders.  And that's what's going to boost BotW the most, it's a launch title for the Nintendo Switch.  And also the hype for it is just at a fever pitch.

That said, I think Horizon will be fine.  I think Zelda will likely overshadow it, absolutely.  But it won't completely bury it by any means.  Each are distinct enough from each other to find an audience.  And each being exclusive to their respective machines makes it easier for each to breath despite crowding each other.

Anything is possible, but based on the situation BotW is launching in, I'd imagine it being much closer to Twilight Princess than Skyward Sword. One game launched towards the end of the active life of the system, the other was a launch title for a new platform and a simulaneous release on a previous console.

I imagine that most early adopters are more dedicated fans, and are much more likely to pick up Breath of the Wild than 1, 2 Switch or Bomberman. I would be very surprised if any hype is taken away from Zelda in favor of Horizon...especially given the response this game has generated so far.

Like I said though...anything is possible.

Ah. Your such a kill joy. I forgot Horizon Zero Dawn was coming out so near Zelda BOTW. Its not often two games are available simultaneously that I am day 1 for. Now I must meditate on the problem (probably flip a coin) to see which one I will play first.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

No. Sadly enough, if anything it's Horizon that will be overshadowed by Breath of the Wild.

The new Zelda comes out at the same as a new console, which generally creates a lot more hype than a simple game release. Zelda coming out just in time for the Switch's launch, and being the only true killer app for it, will affect the social discussions in favor of it.

A new IP vs an extremely anticipated game from a well established series of over 20 years...

Yea I think it's kinda obvious...

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

BotW has vastly more hype and positive reception than SS did pre-release. BotW has TP/OoT level hype.

With that being said, I dont see either one overshadowing the other. They will likely both have strong critical & commercial success.
