Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why on earth doesn't the Switch have camera's?

Cause the camera on the 3ds and vita sucked and it would just take more battery away and increase the already high price...

I don't trust Nintendo and their cameras, unless they went for Nokia's imaging devices (rip) or swallowed their pride and went straight at Sony top of the line sensors. Even then, software plays a large part in imaging, too.

Less expensive to produce

Lower costs and this is not a smartphone or intended to be a smart device.

I think it would've been awesome to have a XboxOne level portable, with 10hr battery and could replace nearly all features of a smartphone (sans cellular). Yet, the group that would've bought a $500 Nintendo consoles is lower than those that bought a WiiU considering PS4Pro and Scorpio are still going to be more powerful and no one is going to use a tablet/game console over their phone for those non-gaming features.

Everything else has a camera.

" it became a worldwide rage."

Its pokemon and for free. And i think not much of the rage is left.

So here's the deal. Last year Nintendo launched their first mobile game in the form of Pokemon Go wich uses (a very simple form of) AR. It became a worldwide rage. You would think they would embrace AR and couldn't wait to create a high quality  full price version of that game for their next mobile device right?Wrong! The Switch doesn't have a single camera. So no AR, no video chat, no fun video editing, nothing. I mean a tablet without camera's, really?

Can someone please explain how this happened?

Yeah, I was thinking the same.  I don't care, but my kid loves to take his 3DS around for taking photos.  Switch doesn't make a good tablet replacement, not only for this but just general lack of apps.  I think it's like Nintendo says, primarily a home console.  I don't think I ever used the camera on Wii U.

They're targeting gamers with this system, camera focused games will move to smart devices.

That said, Switch will almost certainly have optional Joycons with devices such as a camera. They've pretty much said as much.

Yes you get my point exactly, it just limits the Switch as an all-round device. And i really hope they don't mess up with the apps and atleast include things like Netflix and Youtube. Because that's what can really make the Switch interesting for people looking for an additional/replacement tablet, especially family's with kids. Or perhaps to convince people to replace their 3DS with a Switch.

Believe me in 3 to 4 years from now, they will have their own harware revision  , they will have better batery lifes and also include camera , better screen (amoled ) , and upgraded spec with small size,  the same like DS , and 3DS.

Becourse.. The future "pokemon Go" joycon will be more "badass"

Phones already have that covered.
