Handhelds don't compete with consoles so this is pretty irrelevant.

Great achievement, after a bumpy start Ninty really pulled out all the stops. I never bought one, but I can still acknowledge that they did a great job. Well deserved!

The original Vita had 3G, but it was seriously limited. They had no calling and text support, requiring people to rely on Skype and PSN, so for most, this ment you had to have a phone along with the Vita. It also didn't support Online gaming, and had a limit of 20MB for downloads, meaning you couldn't use it to game, or access new content. Due to those restrictions the 3G Vita didn't sell well and it was discontinued.

If the Switch can replace peoples phone, use 4G for online gaming, and not set locked OS based Data caps, then it can be a success. It won't light the world on fire, but there are enough people out their that couldn't care less about smartphones, and would be much more happy with carrying a single device that can better entertain them on lunch breaks, bus rides, etc. on the go, that they would create an extreamly lucrative business.

The 3DS is honestly one of the best systems ever released IMO. When it fell a bit short in sales, Nintendo gave it the best comeback in platform history with some amazing games. Shame it couldn't have a good Metroid game though :(

Nintendo did their hardware revisions very well and did them at a good time. Monster Hunter and Yokai Watch help too.

It's not surprising, considering the popularity of handhelds in the west and the fact that many households probably have more than one 3DS.

Good. It shows there's market in Japan for videogame devices, enough to not believe that something selling 8 million can be called as success.

When the device is good and has a good library, it can sell good.
