3DS Tops PS2 In Japan

Japans love for Nintendo and PlayStation is why Switch needs to have 4G and Calling/Text, and Sony needs to release a PlayStation Phone that runs all PS4 software when the tech is ready. They will be able to sell 20 - 30 million a peice just in Japan if they add cellular features to the next round of mobile gaming platforms. That will spark plenty of non gaming app development, and ultimatly allow them to compete in the US. Nintendo and Sony could very easily grab over 100 Million Switch Phone and PS Phone users each within 5 years. Pleanty to be a decent size player in the mobile space, and 20 times the maount Sony will sell with Xperia device in the same time.

Hopefully the between the two, they can start a second mobile duoply, that offers an alternitive to the SlabPhone twins in the market today.

Didn't the PSvita had 4G? 

The original Vita had 3G, but it was seriously limited. They had no calling and text support, requiring people to rely on Skype and PSN, so for most, this ment you had to have a phone along with the Vita. It also didn't support Online gaming, and had a limit of 20MB for downloads, meaning you couldn't use it to game, or access new content. Due to those restrictions the 3G Vita didn't sell well and it was discontinued.

If the Switch can replace peoples phone, use 4G for online gaming, and not set locked OS based Data caps, then it can be a success. It won't light the world on fire, but there are enough people out their that couldn't care less about smartphones, and would be much more happy with carrying a single device that can better entertain them on lunch breaks, bus rides, etc. on the go, that they would create an extreamly lucrative business.
