Over the past six years, the cost of solar energy has dropped dramatically, to the point where it is now even cheaper than wind power in emerging markets like China and India. This may be largely due to rising investments in solar over the last few years. Now, there is electricity being produced in Chile for $29.10 per megawatt hour–half the price of power produced by coal.

Not good news for the oil/gas/coal industries but good news for humanity. 

When there is money to be made, or to save. That s ehen things finally kicks off.

The sooner the better. The amount of energy the sun bathes the Earth with per hour is astronomical. It's coming at us just waiting for us to harvest it.

This will keep improving and when the technology improves just a little more it will majorly take off. I can see why the oil countries are selling as much oil as possible at lower prices rather than limiting supply for higher prices. In 15/20 years the oil might be worth fuck all and they'll have a shit ton of it that they won't ever be able to sell.

Too bad that fossil fuels are cheaper than solar energy in most of the United States ...

Solar Power has no foreseeable future as a big supplier in developed nations, eh ?

The other thing that pisses me off about so called "renewable" alternatives to energy is that their intermittent and that we'd need expensive batteries to store that energy if we want to be self sustaining from fossil fuels ...

Extreme environmentalists will never be able to break off dependence from traditional sources of energy no matter how hard they wish it LOL ...

And yet the UK government is readying to set super high taxes on solar Energy! It's an absolute disgrace from the UK government. The sun is free it cost nothing and can solve ALOT of problems on the planet by harvesting this clean free energy that comes in limitless supply.

Solar energy capacity in the US is now at 35.8 GW. As 2016 comes to a close, 14.1 GW of capacity has been added in 2016 alone, a new record, and 88% above what was added in 2015. Solar is growing like gangbusters.

i was watching a program on Nuclear fusion and apparently there's a few places around the globe putting massive practical research into it as it's clean energy and they say the amount of energy that it releases would supply the globe literally forever. I'm not sure how the whole thing works but it seemed like it could be the future of energy and putting a stop to fossil fuel but it's just just being able to pull it off.
