Forums - Gaming Discussion - Games like Last Guardian are pushing the medium as an art form yet "gamers" are grumpy and mad

TIME magazine: 10/10

Washington Post: 10/10

Guardian: 10/10

Telegraph: 10/10

The Economist: "The most emotionally involving game ever"

Dailydot: 10/10

Legit non-gaming sources telling you how it is. This is the type of games non-gamers will point at when even trying to attempt discussing games as art. Not Witcher 3 or Skyrim. But yeah, "ps2 gameplay", worst game evurr!

Well yeah, Witcher 3 or Skyrim aren't very "artsy".

I think there was already a metacritic thread?

Pocky Lover Boy!

If the game have issues, then the game have issues. Its not the fault of a reviewer for feeling that the camera is bad, or that the gameplay is outdated, no matter how "artsy" the game is.

And art is very subjective. While i did not play The Last Guadian(and I wont play it), I personally feel that any game that is good enough to be called a masterpiece is a form of art to be recognized with. The Witcher 3 fits that profile for me for example. So as I said, really subjective.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I'm really hoping you're drunk.

For every Slumdog Millionnaire, there are Transformer films in Hollywood. For every game that can be considered a work of art, there is CoD. However, Slumdog won't appeal to the masses.

... That's your point right?

Hmm, pie.

eh, art is overrated. I`d much rather watch an action packed Hollywood film than look at some old painting by some dead guy. Why should games be any different? Fun, exciting games >(*infinite) artsy games.

I don't think you understand what art is. *Sigh*

Yeah... Im exactly the oposite of that I absolutly love the game thus far and its a clear ontender not only for GOTY but for GOTG for me thus far Luckily the industry is big enough to have enough of both I would never dismiss a new Mario platformer as I know that its amazing. The same way I wont dismiss a Chinese ROom game either

I understand perfectly what art is. Stuff that old/pretentious people like.

Lol... I do prefer dumb fun over "art" most of the time, but I'm sure there's great games you've played and enjoyed that I'd classify as art.

Anything that illicits strong emotions or has a deep underlying message is art imo, The Last of Us for example.

This movie had a budget of 15 million US$, made around 380 million at the worldwide boxoffice plus 40 million through video sales (US only). Furthermore it was hyped by western mass media so much that it allmost inevitably won 8 Oscars.
