PS4 Pro is 'selling very well,' but Sony remains quiet on PSVR sales

Sony's Shuhei Yoshida addresses the reception to both the PS4 Pro and PSVR, but don't expect any concrete hardware figures.

Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SIE WWS), has revealed that PlayStation 4 Pro is off to a solid start at retail following its worldwide debut on November 10.

Speaking during an interview with DigitalSpy, Yoshida-san made it clear that PS4 Pro is pulling in the punters, and expressed his hope that early adopters of its flagship console would be the ones to upgrade to the more powerful, 4K-compatible machine.

Yes, it's selling very well. We were hoping that people who purchased a PS4 day one would upgrade to PS4 Pro, and people who have a 4K TV would see it as their console of choice,” said the executive.

We need more time to analyse the situation, but it seems that more people who are buying PS4 for the first time are choosing PS4 Pro. I think that's driving a larger demand than we had anticipated. In many markets it's sold out and hard to find.

PSVR sales yet to be revealed

As for PlayStation VR, Yoshida-san made it clear he wasn’t in a position to divulge sales figures for the virtual reality device. Nonetheless, he did point to the fact most shops are sold out of the headset, adding, “Well, it's selling out pretty much everywhere.”

He did, however, talk about the reception to PSVR: “Very, very strong. I couldn't be happier about the situation. I was hoping that when we launched PSVR there would be games that people could enjoy and games that took advantage of VR. I was anticipating that it would take some time for developers to experiment and understand the best uses for VR. I still believe that's the case, but even the games which have already come out – some of them are amazing to play on PSVR. So I'm very happy, and people are continuing to purchase more games for the system, so that's a very good sign.”

PSVR was released on October 13 and has seen a diverse range of software released to date, including Robinson: The Journey, Batman: Arkham VR, DriveClub VR, with numerous high-profile releases due next year such as Resident Evil 7: biohazard and Gran Turismo Sport.

My guess is PSVR is not selling as well as PS4 Pro.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I am very interested to see how things play out in Sony's Q3 results. That should give us a better understanding of how both PSVR and the Proare doing. I think Farpoint and Resident Evil will be really telling from a critical view as well. If RE and Farpoint are still praised when they arrive, then I think PSVR is on a good track. If we get a lot of negative press around those titles then there may br trouble.

One thing is certain for me. VR is the future of games, maybe not now, but what I have experienced in VR is unmatchable on a traditional flat panel and contorller. VR and Motion are the only way to better games, and I really hope it takes off sooner than later.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Not surprising. They haven't gave us an update on the Vita sales.

Pocky Lover Boy!

PR can be pretty basic:

No or little news   > Not so good
Big news                > Good

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

The usual stuff and PR talk. In the end, PSVR will be the next kinectmove, although I think it will sell way less than Kinect.

The new kinect of the old one from a generation ago? Or 1.0 and 2.0 combined?

I think i might outsell it. Not by much, but the PS4 momentum should help it either way.
