It's a mass appeal title that succeeded, of course it beat niche stuff. I'm very happy about its success, and I'm hoping Nintendo can take advantage of that smartly.

I dunno if I'd call Paper Mario, or Starfox in its heyday, niche.

By this logic most third party games should have sold better. There are no games like Assassins's Creed or Fifa or Need for Speed on the Wii U. Didn't help those games.

Let's say it did help them. That would mean it's an irrelevant factor since those games still sold poorly.
I hope this gives Nintendo the motivation to try even more new game ideas instead of just giving us new installments of the same IPs every generation.
