Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Why I don't like the Joy-Cons

I'm neutral on the joy cons. As I've said before, I won't write off any new things Ninten shows off until I try it. There's been times before where I questioned the functions of some of their goods, and they proved to be better than I initially thought on multiple occasions. So maybe the joy cons aren't as bad as they look, or perhaps they actually work pretty well. I'll be waiting to test them out myself when the console releases.

I'm not bothered by that because I'll get a Switch Pro controller to play with, and if I use them on the handheld they probably won't feel that small.

But it does make me wonder, what will Nintendo do if they want to make a Switch Mini model? The controllers are going to be minuscule!

You know it deserves the GOTY.

It's a convenience that allows you to have two controllers for multiplayer in situations where you wouldn't expect to play multiplayer.

It's not supposed to be the console's main controller, it's just an added bonus. I doubt it comes at much expense for anyone who's not going to use it.

Perfect. Close thread xD.

The actor who used them disagrees with you.

Additionally, "they are too small and the buttons arranged too awkwardly to be used as single controllers", how can you possibly know this without actually using them?

I've said this previously, I am concerned I'll like the joy-con myself. However, There is no reason anyone can justify an outright statement such as yours at this point. You haven't seen it in person or had any actual reviews of the hardware to make any such claims.

This is like my kids when they were 3 saying they don't like corn. You can't know you don't like something until you try it.

I know how it looks, but I'll refrain myself from arguing about the ergonomy of the Switch before I actually try it.

I feel like there is more to the Joy-Con than meets the eye.

Do you in fact think that they are robots in disguise?

80s child, I'm sorry.

This for me too, can't really tell how something is going to feel like until you're holding it playing a game, sure it looks a little different compared to a normal controller (or that lovely pro design they showed off) but I trust Nintendo, they literally invented the D-pad, they'll make a comfortable usable controller.

Yeah, the joycons are gonna suck as standalone controllers. There are still advantages to removeable controls, though.

1. It allows the Switch to function as a standalone tablet, If Nintendo is smart enough to include a proper browser, Youtube,Netlflix support, and a low power mode for inproved battery during non gaming tasks, can see this replacing my Android Tablet for most uses.

2. The removeable controllers will make it easier to fit into a purse, bookbag, or even large pants pockets.

3. It theoretically means the joycons in there current form could be replaced with a different design down the line.

4. Smash Bros has a tendency to ruin joysticks. It would be incredibly shortsighted of them to put that game on a handheld with non-replaceable controls. Replacing a joy-con will be as simple as sliding out the old one and putting in the new. That alone is enough justification for the added cost, if you ask me.

Joycons look to be about 4" wide. SNES controller was about 5" wide. The original Gameboy was about 3.8" wide.

Which begs the question - was the SNES controller or Gameboy that uncomfortable to hold? Not perfect - but not the worst from what I remember. Certainly bearable when the game is really good...

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
