If God was real, would you love and worship?

Yes, I would love and worship Him. 49 41.53%

No. And would not. 69 58.47%

I am, a lot of you know, a born again christian.

And as such, and being a ex-atheist myself,  I always was fascinated  by the famous atheist Christopher Hitchens, as he stated that even if God existed he would not bow to Him, cause he hates Him and thinks this hipothetic God is not worthy of it.

I never had a chance to ask that to other atheists "What would you do if God was real, would you worship Him?"

But I was always mermerized by the boldness of Hitchens answer. This is not a answer one gives in lightness, and he was brave enough to not dodge the question either. It would be very easy to say "I will not answer cause I KNOW there is no god"

It is not a tricky question, I would like to know how atheists, other than the late Chris Hitchens, think about this. If you answer "yes" I will not say "Then repent!" and if you say no I will not call you names. I want to read about how people fell about this. If I somehow would find out that my God was not real, I would probably not be able to accept and process that information as truth, and therefore would keep loving Him, but how would a atheist react in face of hard cold evidence of the divine?

So, what would you do if you found out God is real? If a supreme, eternal, almighty being had created you and the Universe, and was the very thing that sustained everything, would you love and worship this creator?

I would ask him or her, "Do you care if I pray or not?"

If he/she says yes, then I shall ask, "if I start doing that, will I have sex with hawt chicks forever after I die?" if yes then I shall be more religious than the pope.

If him/her says no, then I will ask him/her if I could have some hookers and then go back to fapping.

So you're conceding to him being imaginary? :p

It is a kind of "yes", very different take than Chris Hitchens; By the way, thank you for answering, I know it is a hard question.

I sort of answered this in your other topic, but you need to clarify.

First off, as an atheist, I don't necessarily believe there is no god.   I am basically as sure as possible that god could not exist as depicted in the bible, but it's possible that there is something that meets some or all of the criteria you're mentioning.

I'm going to assume you mean god as he is portrayed in the bible.  In that case, I'd worship him.  If you've seen the Twilight Zone, there's an episode where there is a horrible child who is basically all powerful.  So, no matter how awful he is, everyone around him has to smile and nod, and pretend they love and worship him.  That's how I would feel about the god of the bible, if he was real.  I may think he's awful, but I don't want to be tortured or anything, so I'd do what he said.

The question was made to Chris Hitchens in a debate against philosopher David Berlinski. I found it absolutelly fascinating the way he answered.

As I said, if I recieved hard cold evidence of a non-theistic universe I would probably not be able to process it as true and I would keep loving God and believing.

It is such a interesting question, I rather risk be questioned in my than not making it.

But, no, I am not conceding the possibility =)

I became a christian because I had cold hard evidence of supernatural evil, continuous, and then cold hard evidence of being saved from it. I will not get in details. But I always wondered what would other atheists do in face of hard cold evidence, because Chris Hitchens, which many consider a genious, said that he would keep hating God if he had evidence of His existence.

I am the kind of person that will stick to what I believe is right until proven wrong. Now, I am not very religious at all, essentially to a degree of atheism (Haruhiism excluded)(inside thing). But I still believe in a God but not in the sense that, we have to pray and do all these religious things in order to please him/her and go to heaven or hell afterwords based on those things.

But rather, God has his/her own things to care about and his/her own life. So me doing those things is pointless in my eyes. This is in no way me trying to convince others to stop praying or or stop believing in their faiths/religions btw. I will always respect everyone's faith and beliefs but rather, that is just what I believe in.

Which god? I mean...I imagine it would be tough for me to be convinced that some being that showed up and claimed to be our creator was actually "god" and not just some form of extra-terrestrial.

But! If I was somehow convinced that it was god...I don't know. I could probably come around eventually. But it would be a pretty big rock to my whole worldview.

This is why I wanted to do this thread, what a unique answer you gave me.

It is not the same of what Hitchens answered. He, as you, hates the God of the Bible, thinks He is bad. But Hitchens said that he would not worship this God, even if it was manifest. Your take is totally different. Very interesting.

What would you do if God is not real? That's a far better question for yourself.
