Only liked and played Mariokart 8 out of the ones you mentioned. Glad it is still doing well and has an awesome attach rate for the Wii U.

Cant wait what the NX version will bring this time. I do want more players, more modes and don't make a Mario Party on the Battle mode........

Pocky Lover Boy!

FPS took the spot, most likely

Maybe developers just feel they've taken the genre as far as it can go. I mean what else can you do? Back in the '90s when graphics and gameplay could still be radically improved upon, that was enough to get people excited about the next racer. But these days, graphics can't really be improved on that scale anymore, gameplay can't really either, so people are slowly losing interest.

The genre fell into the world of gimmicks and catering to a "broader audience", like other genres as of the 7th gen or there abouts. That's what happened.

Haven't you heard? Only open world games with a lot of violence and pew pew pew as well as cinematic experiences are what the market demands. We should be glad that those games help keep the industry afloat, or otherwise we wouldn't even be gaming at all. Now let's put these racing games where they belong: on the genre cemetery next to shoot'em ups, 3D platformers and strategy games. There are already reserved spots for survival horror and fighting games, by the way.

You know, we all only have a limited amount of time and money, but we really, really must play what the cool kids play, or else everyone will think we are weirdos. You don't want to be a weirdo, do you? So you better start playing some GTA and CoD, son.

Right, thank you.

I think that the Racing genre is in Forzas hands now. Horizon (Arcade) and Motorsports (sim) are kings in their genres. Then there is Mario Kart as THE leader for Kart games.

There were some releases like Split second, Blur, TDU or Pure (which was really fun), but they did not appeal to the masses at all.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Forza has been destroying gamerankings and metacritic
