Can't pick one as there are sub genres that bring totally different experiences.

GT for sim racing
PG for semi Arcade / sim
Motorstorm for action race
Mario Kart wins kart racer by default since Diddy Kong, LBP Karting, Modnation and CTR aren't franchises.

Going to go with Grand Prix (Activision) on the Atari 2600.

I actually voted F-Zero but deep down in my heart know it is Mario Kart.

GT is probably the best "sim" racer though... but I don't have nearly as much fun with sims as I do arcade racers.

That's Mario Kart wii alone, Mario Kart 8 is not like that.

Even with Mario Kart Wii I'd say it's more like 80% skill, 20% luck.

But yeah, MK8 is definitely the most well balanced, skill based, and fair game in the series, IMO anyway.

Mario Kart is just way more fun for me than any other racers. I tend to find other franchise's focus on realism shalow more than anything else.
