Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Why the Scorpio will sell for no more than $399 (if its 6tflops).

Will the Scorpio sell for no more than $399 (if its 6Tflops).

Yes. Technology progresse... 117 29.77%

No. Its simply too expens... 276 70.23%

Total:393

Considering ps4p 4.2tf is only $100 more now than the XBox One s 1.35tf, that's not so unreasonable. It wouldn't be much of a premium machine, more like a pro :)

If MS goes the premium way, new CPU, 12GB ram, 6tf GPU, 4K UHD drive with dolby atmos / dts:x support, 2tb hdd, 499 at least. Ofcourse next year it will go up against a 349 pro and 249 slim.

Anywho since both slims start at 299, is MS making a slight loss on the slim or is Sony increasing their profit?
(I'm guessing a slight loss on the 500GB, no way there is 50$ difference between the drives and the 399 version came much sooner to sweep up the early adopter fees)

imo $400 to $500.

i really depends on what the rest of the hardware looks like. is it a better cpu? are they increasing the amount of RAM? UHD drive probably. how big is it (shipping costs a lot).

so yeah, i dunno. it all depends on what ms prioritizes. if it is just an xbox one with 6 tf than yeah sure,.. $400 is quite reasonable. if it is 6tf with a substantial increase in the cpu and RAM then probably not.

If I could have it my way, the thing would launch at $499, be 9-10TFs, with 16 GB of RAM (GDDR5X), contain a 2-4TB SSD, and at least 3 exclusive titles (yes, in essence, Xbox Two).

But, instead, it'll likely launch between $399-$449 and remain a 6TF Xbox One. I just wish it had some exclusives.

Only GDDR5X? Why not HBM 2.0? I mean, you might as well go all in at that point.

I agree and think they'll launch at $399 and that will be their holiday bomb. Heck, it might also include a game. The fact their making it in the first place shows they want to be aggressive and aren't giving up.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

I am on the other side of my sig....am I warm or cold?

Because that's when you'll see a price increase for certain (and that's still unreleased). GDDR5X is safer and is, actually, quite the jump over GDDR5.

Like you wouldn't see a price increase for certain at 9-10 Tflops (just a GPU in that range will cost twice your suggested price alone . Actually, I do think the only GPU in that range currently on the market is the Titan X, no?) 16 Gb of GDDR5X and a 2 TB SSD (which would also be twice your suggested price alone ).

To be honest, I don't think they have any choice in the matter. The Pro is going to be able to drop price by then, and that difference in power is going to be hard to justify what, if the Scorpio launches at $499, would likely be a $150 difference. The system itself is still going to cost more than the pro to build, though, even the 1 year difference won't be able to change that.

Of course you'd see a price increase (I did note at least $200 over the X1, after all).

But, people need to remember that the PC variants of any of the parts are not what's going in there. It's usually cutdown (custom) for the console, saving some costs.

Yes but even then, you wouldn't be able to get your suggested specs at 499$, even though it's a year from now.

I assume the only spec you remembered was that 6Tflops.

12gb of GDDR5 RAM
4K Blu Ray drive
And it's going to require an all new CPU.

The PS4 Pro is $399 with the same CPU, the same RAM, and no 4K Blu Ray drive.

$499 will be impressively inexpensive.

Plus, Moore's law is dead.

www.technologyreview.com/s/601441/moores-law-is-dead-now-what/

Why would it require a new CPU? I mean the PS4 Pro is just an overclocked jaguar and seems to be just fine for the console. I expect the same for the Scorpio. And when did Microsoft confirm that the Scorpio would have 12GB of Ram? And finally, the 4k blu-ray drive is an extra $15 on manufacturing costs, so its nill.

I guess it doesn't HAVE to have a new CPU. But people are in for a huge disappointment if it doesn't.

Even if it gets overcooked by like 30% youre still looking at a 2.4 or 2.5GHz CPU. That not really enough to make a huge difference over the Pro. You'll basically be seeing PS4  vs. Xbox One levels of difference amd it will still probably be more than $399.

MS said that it will have 320 gb/s worth of GDDR5. That's either 12gb, the fastest 8gb ever, or the slowest 16gb of GDDR5 ever.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Alright, so you've got me there. But what exactly is the price difference between 8GB of GDDR5 and 12GB.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

$599, fool! READ!

Well, at least, I can't see it being much higher than that. Of course, they'd never go for my specs anyway (well, perhaps something close by 2019-2020). But, looking at it twice, I may be low-balling the price for all that, just a tad.

No my dear sir, you are the fool!
