Forums - Sony Discussion - New PS4 Controller vs original DualShock 4: what’s the difference?

The wireless bluetooth on my controllers seems crap compared to the PS3/DS3 ones, if I sit in a way were my knees are up on my sofa and it blocks the signal, the controls lag loads. Does this new controller have a better bluetooth connection?

*Reads opening post* ... No.

Hmm, pie.

I take it they tested whether or not that light-strip won't be completely annoying?

Oh well, there's always black tape I guess.

So much concern about the light, but It'll be fine. This dude made a comparison and teardown of the controller. The controller doesn't have an actual light in the front but it simply lets some light leak trough. The result is a much dimmer light.

I know what you mean, even the dimmest setting still shines.  Wish they can just give the option to turn off that light completely.

We won't get that. Sony is obviously in the pockets of Big Energy.

That does explain the short battery life of these controllers lol

It seems that no one knows this, but the PS4 controllers only connect to the PS4 system via bluetooth, no matter the connection method. It's not ideal for fighting games. On PC, connect your controller with a USB and your fine. My PC doesn't even have bluetooth and that's what I uses.

Although, honestly, I should just use a mouse and keyboard for everything (fighting games included). There's no good reason for using a controller on PC when you have a mechanical keyboard.

But, back to the PS4, that's why the USB connection is significant.  Not related to the PC.

Ah.  So what you are saying is that you can still connect your original DS4 to the PS4 for recharging purposes, but the inputs are read via Bluetooth.  Am I correct?

yes, that's exactly what I'm saying...

But then it is rather a modification on the console OS side, not on the controller side because to controller always supported wired communication.

Aside from the "share" and "menu" buttons disappearing into another dimension when I reach for them in a pinch, I thought the original was perfect. I don't even mind the battery life anymore.

The one thing is smaller than the thing on the other. Pretty obvious really.
