Forums - Sales Discussion - Nowadays are you buying more digital or physical games?

Nope. I'm buying less digital now as I have seen the error of my ways. If I'm gonna spend money on something, I want total control, not partial... and I want it to be there even when the host company doesn't anymore.

Except you dont have total control.

Once your CD or Cartridge gets damaged and becomes unresponsive - its a paper weight - same with the platform that plays the game.

Both Physical and digital have their end of lives. No one form is better than the other in absolute fashion.

Digital wise - PSN/XBL/PC (in all formats) you are pretty much secure - as long as the services run which I dont see how any of them will be closing down anytime soon.

Nintendo however is a different issue - they are still lagging behind when it comes to digital support unless they come up with something similar to how the digital content is locked to your account and not the console itself.

But you just listed the biggest problem of the digital: the services need to keep running. While yes, its very unlikely that they stop working overnight, its a much safer alternative to just have the physical verdion, as long as you have at least a minimal care for the disk(which lets be honest, as long as you dont lose it, its very hard to break or anything of the sort, and if the hardware breaks its a problem for both physical and digital).I mean, anything could happen in 20 years.Sony could go bankrupt, microsoft could go bankrupt, and even Nintendo too, and that could put your digital titles in jeopardy. But if you have the physical verdions, its a garantee it would work. But to be quite honest, both situations(in which you lose the ability to play your games) is very unlikely, so we all will be good.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Id rather have physical but most of my ps4 games are digital because they were discounted. All my wii u games are physical because of the 32gb

I still buy 10 times more physical. I refuse to pay more than a few dollars for a digital game, for the most part.

Digital mostly.
For the Wii U I made a quick calculation and came to the conclusion that Nintendo 1st & 2nd party games easily fit in a 500GB external HDD (even a few 3rd party will fit in there - ALL Wii U games probably fit in 1T).

I recently bought a PS4 500GB with the intention to not need more storage. The games I played so far I will never want to play more than once (maybe with the exception of NMS).

Physical will be how I buy games until discs, or anything, such as cartriges or whatever physical media would be introduced in the future, are completely phased out, and only then will I buy digital games.

I have not bought The Witness due to an article I read about the game suggesting a physical release down the line, and I really wanna get The Witness so hopefully that disc comes soon

The only games I will buy digitally nowadays are indie games that I'm pretty much certain will never be released physically, and remasters. I bought The Last of Us Remastered and God of War Remastered digitally

I usually buy AAA physical because it's cheaper. Digital if there's a good sale or for download only.

There aren't that much games anymore I 'need' to own on disc while digital often is more convenient than physical.

- LittleBigPlanet 3
- Rayman Legends
- Driveclub
- Tearaway Unfolded
- The Crew
- Skylanders Swap Force

- Saints Row 4
- Shadows of Mordor
- Call of Duty: Blackops 3

95% physical

Definitely physical. Most of time I go digital only if said game can't be bought physically. That's just how I roll!
