It looks pretty good, but I have low expectations after The Force Awakens. I'm definitely going to watch it though.

Meh. I know what's gonna happen before it happens.

Also, not much hope after Force Awakens sucked.

Because the fact that they just made the best Star Wars movie in 30 years is something really concerning for this one?

I'm sorry but you need to be blind or clueless about cinema to ignore how well directed TFA was compared to the "new trilogy", the amount of talent they put behind that film is nothing less than good sign for this new one, yes the screenplay had some incoherences (as usual on the saga), but cinema is way more than a screenplay, specially when are talking about and action adventure film in space.

Just because something is better than garbage, doesn't mean it's good.  It's still nowhere near the quality of the original trilogy.

Because 6 is brilliant, not overrated by nostalgia at all...

I never said it was, but I still think it's a better movie than TFA.

Man it's strange how people actually think this.  I mean everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I don't see how it falls below at least mediocre given the effects, score, and likable new characters.

Well for me the movie was actually pretty OK. It was nothing to write home about, but when it comes to AAA budget hollywood flicks it most deffinatly falls in the good category. The issue is that I constantly felt like "been there done that", something that not even the prequal series managed to do for me. It could have been so much more and all it felt was like its a bit wasted opportunity. I never felt the sittuations uregncy when I watched it or the high stakes, something that the original trilogy managed to capture with every one of the films. And the worst part was, that it didnt communicate to me anything meaningfull. Never once did they tried a smart route to actually base the struggle on a cleverly hidden ideological backgrounds. Rather they chose to milk the nostalgia factor for old viewers and put in impressive action for newer ones.

I will still watch this one, dont get me wrong, but I have some mixed feelings about it. The grittiness yet again feels like something that they do, only because the trend is there. The war scenes look far more down to earth, because that is trendy these day. Oh, and did I mention that the director is still unproven AA A wise. Monsters was good, but that was pretty low-budget, but Godzilla was mediocre at best (it looked amazing, at least we have that).

But lets hope for the best.

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

Looks amazing! I wonder if it--being a spin-off/prequel--will compete with TFA's box office haul.

Or it is because the term is highly imprecise, vague, debated, poorly defined (see here: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MarySue ), and usually only flung as criticism of an unliked important character.

And going by the loosely held set of ideas that passes for the definition of the term, Luke falls just as close to the term as Rey.  I do feel her defeating the villain head on is too fast, but I think that's a failing in writing the villain, not because she is a Mary Sue.

No, it's because it's accurate. And Luke doesn't perform the same feats as her. It's been discussed multiples anyway - there's no way around the fact that she's a Mary Sue/flawless/everyone's world revolves around her, etc. and therefore a terrible character.

She didn't seem flawless to me as she made the mistake of letting the Rathars out when she intended to close the doors on the two gangs to protect Han Solo from them. She also initially decided to run away after touching the lightsaber instead of listening to Maz. Still, I understand why she would be seen as a Mary Sue (even though I disagree with that).

Also, it's a shame that movie audiences are so inherently misogynistic that this new entry in a previously mostly male-led franchise is doomed to have twice as many dislikes as likes on YouT...oh wait.

When's the next star wars game due? Will it just be a battlefront expansion releasing near this?

Movie looks decent btw. Didn't realise it was out this year.

And guess who saved the day when those tentacle monsters got released...

I know Rey did, but that doesn't change the point I was trying to make, which was that she's not perfect. If anything, she's a bit too skilled, especially with the Jedi mind trick. Then again Ahsoka was able to use it as a Padawan (I'm not sure if it actually worked though).
