Forums - Movies & TV - Hollywood Should Be Ashamed Of Itself -- Worst Summer Movie Season EVAR.

Its been like this for years OP. Standards have gone down the drain since the resurgence of animated movies and superhero films. Unfortunately the need for moronic escapism seems to be at an all time high so don't expect things to change any time soon.

Its not been all bad though, Midnight Special and 10 Cloverfield Lane were fantastic. Overall though, a terrible year for movies so far. Bourne was surprisingly good though.

Around the Network

Bad year. Hardly any of the movies really interested me. I watched Captain America, Batman vs Superman, Finding Nemo, the Jungle Book, and a couple of other ones (can't even remember the names), but none were that great and some were bad. The only one I really enjoyed was the Jungle Book.

Pete's Dragon you honestly think it will be good lol?

If Elliot doesn't do some whistle, tick and boops while talking, film is ruined.

Damn straight.

One of the major issues is the cost of going to the movies. In the past fifteen years it has gone from $5 to $12 where I go and it is uniform regardless of what you see.

I enjoy movies, but at $12 a ticket it has become more of an occasional social event as opposed to easy solution to use an evening. For example, Green Room is an intense thriller, but many people balk at spending the same price to see it as they would Captain America: Civil War. Most people I know are content to wait and watch on DVD or Blu Ray on their 55" or larger televisions for many comedies and dramas. What gets them into a theatre are the spectacle $100+ million blockbuster type films that make use of the big screen.

Without the international market hollywood would be very concerned about dwindling attendance (covered up by high ticket price) and not sure how long China and others will prop current model up.

Don't let hype dictate what you watch so much. 2016 movies I saw that were very good (imo), but won't be found in the Top 10 (or Top 50 for that matter):

Hail Caesar (comedy)
Eddie the Eagle (heart warming drama)
The Nice Guys (comedy thriller)
Eye in the Sky (drama thriller)

Just because they aren't setting box office records, doesn't mean they aren't good or worth your time and money. From your list by the way, I actually thought The Jungle Book and Tarzan were good. As for Independence Day, you should have known better. That had as much chance of being good as a sequel to Escape From New York 15 years later (Escape From LA), or a sequel to The Blues Brothers 18 years later (Blues Brothers 2000).
