Forums - Sales Discussion - More Signals of PS4 Summer Shortages in Japan Come from Retailer

Last week, a store of the popular Japanese retail chain Yodobashi Camera put up a sign warning customers of apotential shortage of PS4 in August and September.

Now it isn’t an isolated signal anymore. The Arakawa store of the popular Niigata Prefecture retailer COMG! Announced via Twitter that a summer shortage for PS4 is incoming, advising customers to purchase the console before it happens. The message was then retweeted by the retailer’s main Twitter account.

Considering the launch of popular JRPGs like Tales of Berseria, Persona 5 and Final Fantasy XV, on top of the new chapters of beloved rhythm franchises like The Idolmaster and Hatsune Miku Project Diva and more, the PS4 seems to be definitely in the position of having a very hot summer in Japan, possibly enhancing the momentumreported yesterday by Media Create.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see if the wave of strong titles will be enough to severely impact availability on the store shelves.

Impressive!

Where are the bundles though?!

Good news. Well, not good because you'd always want there to be enough stock that everyone that wants to buy a product can but it, but it's a lot better to be understocked than overstocked. When all is said, this will probably be the PS4's peak year.

massive sales in coming in Japan

Makes sense since they should be shifting production resources to Neo soon. Gonna be really tough the next months because they need to satisfy both new PS4 customers for all the anticipated games as well as double dippers for the Neo. Basically double demand on the same resources.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I strongly doubt this would be the PS4s peak year. The PS4 can still be as low as $199. Whenever that happens, that will be its peak year; everywhere. At the very least I don't feel a console priced at  $350 (which is only $50 less than it launched almost 3yrs ago) can be having a peak anything.

On another note, I think what we are really seeing here is the first confirmation of the Neo coming this year after all. What other explanation would there be for why all of a sudden the PS4 is going to run into supply issues. I'm guessing that they are dropping overall PS4 production down by around 20-30% to make room for whatever amount of Neos they plan on making.

I just hope Sony says something soon, I've been due to get my nephew a PS4 for almost 2 months now. Was planning on getting a Neo and then giving him mine. I can't do anything now cause I have no idea when the Neo is even coming out. If not this year, then I'll just buy him a PS4.

Yeah I know.... and I'm talking everywhere. Including Japan.

If a $350 console sells 1M this year in Japan (just an example), then my money is that in the first year that the console is at $250 it will sell more than it did at $350.

But this year it's getting Tales of Berseria, FFXV and Persona 5 in Japan. 2017 might have a chance if DQXI and KH3 releases.

Keep in mind, the PS3's peak year in Japan was 2009.
