They won from France, which beat Germany in the finals and is the guestland with many high profile players. Portugal wasn't lucky they where good and didn't lose it and slaughtered France in overtime. Ronaldo has been Vital for Portugal as was Bale for Wales. Winning with the narional team of Argentina, Germany and France is arguably way less difficult than winning with Portugal, to do that you need a leader. That is where Ronaldo and Wales exceeded other and better teams this tournament, where individual class lacked against stronger opponents they made up for that by playing as a great team and both Ronaldo and Bale are largely responsible for that.
