A 400$ rig outshines PS4 and One and by the time Scorpio and Neo come out a rig with the same price will outshine them again. Consoles are dead.

But with $400 you can get a new console and 60+ games,

We all love games, right? It doesn't have to be binary. It doesn't have to be an either-or proposition. Each platform has its own set of pros and cons, and each one will satisfy a different set of priorities. It's a good thing for us that we have the freedom to choose.

Been the best few years for me compared to 10 years ago. Things have gotten cheaper for me in terms of games with the whole free online part being a good thing I've come to enjoy over the years. Having different vendors to buy from and sites that do different deals is also nice since it means I can always find a cheaper price somewhere on the net and even a store to buy a physical copy if I need one (I'm not that into physical based games on PC these days though).

Looking forward to making a new spec next year with a 1080 in mind.

Boy did it not take long for the usual people to come out from the woodwork to do what they always do whenever a PC thread pops up. Same results each time. I look forward to the creation of their own respective fave systems and seeing them act differently (which has and does happen for other system threads).

Nah. And these types of posts aren't doing you any favors.

Neither are the type that are going against what the OP is saying, but it still happens.

Convenience is the best part of console gaming. I never had the problem you are having, but I've had other problems before with PC games, such as requiring GFWL and being Windows 8 incompatible like with GTA IV, so it was hard but I got a workaround to it after many hours. Then later my copy of EFLC was bricked when I had already completed TLAD and was playing TBOGT, by an update to GFWL that the client itself had asked for. I later bought it on PS3.

But if you understand the technical side of things there are awlways workarounds to any software problem and these days its become more simple too, its mostly a matter of having the latest drivers installed and checking that your system specs can run the game.

I play mostly on PS4 now as I like to play on one platform at a time but PC gaming offers a lot of options and its getting better too.

Sure, you can always fix it, it's just extra time spend not gaming. I still play on my laptop occasionally, usually indies but I also played Elite Dangerous for months and months on it. As long as you use it often the minor annoyances stay in the background. However if you only game once a week or an hour here or there updates and configuration quickly eat into your time. Setting up the controls in Elite Dangerous already takes an hour, imagine the fun when a controller ID glitch in windows 8.1 made the game reset all the bindings on startup. Set up key and controller bindings for 100 different functions every time you want to play lol. The next patch fixed it again but these kinda things happen a lot more often on PC.

I also don't care about the most shiny pixels anymore. Mostly stable 1080p is good enough. On PC I usually have to go into the settings and figure out how to get reasonable performance at native display res, then adjust it again during the game when the action or effects ramp up. Simple solution is to have the latest gpu, or simply play on a console where all that fine tuning has already been done.

Anyway at the end of the day, when the kids are in bed, I just want to relax on the couch, watch some netflix/blu-ray and/or play a game for a bit.  So yeah ps4 is pretty much perfect for that. Last gen I still used the PC and a USB extension cable to game in 1080p on the couch with a ps3 controller, yet this gen the ps4 is good enough for 1080p gaming.

Doesn't change what I said.

No it doesn't but it's also a bit silly to say it doesn't work the other way towards other folk in here trying to prove differently that PC gaming doesn't matter or isn't as great now.

If you have an issue with those posts, report them.

You and me have gone through the same dance the other week, I know why you showed up to this thread, the reports won't do anything. You may as well tell me that nothing I say matters, it's more honest than to say "report and I'll do something about it".

The last few threads on PC worked out exactly like this and they always ended up getting locked rather than dealing with the bad apples that are sullying the thread itself, it's very weird how there are evasions to dealing with the folk causing issues than the thread itself.

I still don't find it enticing enough. There's way too many drabacks. I don't want to put a massive desktop in my living room and use a kb/m on the couch to navigate through an OS not designed to get me into games or streaming apps quicker. Then I'd have to fiddle around to get a DS4 to work, if it does. Then after having spent $1k to get something decent, I have to spend another $1,500 for a laptop because I cannot carry my desktop around. Not to mention that lending a game to someone is a hassle and/or not possible.

Nobody is forcing you to put the PC in the living room or play on the couch. ;)

Why exactly do you need another $1,500 laptop if you have a desktop PC? If it is for mobile work, you need it anyway, so why even mention it in this context? And why does it have to be such an expensive laptop?

It is no rocket science to get a DS4 properly to work with Windows, there are helpful tools that do almost all the work like DS4Windows. Or you just use a 360 or XBO controller.

And of course you can lend PC games to friends. Either physical games without account binding, DRM free games (GOG.com / Humble Store) or via Steam sharing: http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-share-your-steam-gaming-library-with-friends-and-family/
