While it's nice to have new ways to move around, they are very situational and climbing in itself takes a long time

I'm assuming there will be some sort of warping feature so hopefully that will be convenient to use

Eh, I sort of think instant warping would run contrary to the kind of atmosphere they're trying to provide; this really doesn't look like a game you're supposed to rush through. Either way, I doubt they'll keep Epona from us for long.

It's all preference of course... I suppose it could wind up being like Skyrim where you can warp to locations you've visited, but I didn't see any evidence of that on their map.

It's true, and I for one would love to explore around to find all sorts of secrets hidden in the overworld.. but at the same time, having to backtrack for quest collectables would be a pain if you have to manual move from one location to another with such a large map. Really would like to get Epona early and it definitely looks like you will be able to give that you get bows really fast

Being a technological and everything I would be surprised if they didn't have some sort of warping mechanism :p

Wow, i'm willing to say that it might be 1.5 or even 2 times the size of Xenoblade Chronicles X

And probably with the same amount of content :P

you're on fire today lol

Game must be really bothering him... maybe that's why he's on most Zelda threads trying to downplay it/make jokes.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Twelve times as large?

Double Checks

From what I'm finding, Twilight Princess's overworld only a bit over 3 square kilometers, a bit under 1.3 square miles, if you took out unacessible areas and dungeons? That would make BotW roughly the size of Skyrim or so.

That's pretty nice actually.

Love and tolerate.

Thats good to know, by the time it comes out i should have 100% XCX so ill need a huge open world to get my fix.

You think you can 100% XCX? Are you kidding me? I've spent like 40-50 hours (I think) in that game and I'm only on like chapter 8 and there are countless side quests (literally).

As will always be said, bigger /=/ better. ALBW is wonderful because it doesnt drag on for too long. It's super fun and creative, and it's the size of a 20 year old game.

Of course, this is great for the list of comparisons on "Why Zelda U is better than X game"

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I have clocked 230 hours already and i'm sitting at a overall 99% survey completion rate. I'm 3 quest away from ending them all. Still can't beat that damn Telethia :(

I did a quick estimation, that can be quite off because of a few assumptions I made. But I think it is close enough.

So I traced a path (red line) found in Figure 1 below, the link to the video is in this figure. I "counted" the seconds it took for her to walk this path, subtracting any seconds she stopped to attack enemies.  I then used that length to estimate a radius for the area (which is approximately circular.)

I used the average jogging speed of an adult, taking a lower and upper limit, and using the mean with some uncertainty. The time it took her to walk the path was 35 seconds +/- 5 seconds and that gives about 70 - 105 meters for the length of the path.  The radius of the whole area then is something like 4.5 times that (estimation based off two different radii estimates). This gives a radius of something like 315 meters to 472.5 meters for the plateau. I then took the average of that to calculate the area of the this whole plateau. I got approximately 580,000 m^2( or .58 km^2. )

Figure 1

Now I approximate how many of these regions fit inside the entire world map.

Figure 2

I get about 60-70, including the ocean space. So if we multiply 65 by .58 sq-km, we get approximately 37.7 sq-km. I also took notice of my uncertainties and using propagation formulae (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propagation_of_uncertainty ) I recieve a final uncertainty of +/- 6.5 sq-km.

This seems to match the twelve-times Twilight Princess estimate given by Nintendo. And it puts the map at about the size of Skyrim.

Although with how vertical this game is, it definitely feels bigger than that.

Would like to see how this is in comparison to Xenoblade X but is good to know

Walking takes a long time and your stamina depletes really fast (probably can be upgraded) so hopefully there are better ways in traveling around (aside from Epona)

Apparently the Shrines work as warp points. If they're spaced out like they are in the demo throughout the whole world, that would work well.

Can't wait for The Zelder Scrolls 3: Breath of The Wild Hunt!
