Forums - Gaming Discussion - DOOM is 86 on metacritic now, comments?

Can't wait to play it ! it probably wont go up more than 86 it may even end up dropping a couple of points but that's okay i remember when the reviews started it was at 78 - 79 so this is awesome.

It's really heartening to see the positive reception, I was super stoked on this game from pre release footage and what not but I participated in the beta and it just wasn't addictive. With what you guys are saying.... Perhaps the beta didn't do the game justice? Still on the fence

The beta was definitely an accurate representation of the multiplayer portion of things. It boggles the mind that Bethesda chose to use multiplayer to drum up interest instead of the superior single-player campaign.

For me Doom is two parts good, one part mediocre. The campaign and SnapMap are solid, but multiplayer is uninspired.

I'm surprised its that high to be honest. Doom is one of those games that's unapologetic about its vision and doesn't bound itself to conventional genre mechanics and while thats great and all, there are some fundamental things that are just missing here.

The game looks great and plays great too, but the design is so basic it seems like a F2P game. No variation in levels, boring weapons, boring enemies, pointless story segments.

I have enjoyed it and its taken me well over 15 hours to get through the end on ULTRA which is good I guess. I would like to Nightmare it, but the game is so repetitive I don't think I will bother.

You led me to do some reading on 'SnapMap' which I hadn't heard of before, and that's actually pretty significant so I thank you for that.

Oh yeah, SnapMap is rad.

Players have already uploaded tons of single-player, co-op, and multiplayer maps. Some have recreated old Doom classics.

Just like Super Mario Maker, the mode depends on the creativity of the community - but from what I've seen there are a lot of clever designers at work.

I've played about 4 levels and I don't really care for it.

Too many enemies in my opinion. The combat feels good but the gamplay is too repetitive. I'd rather spend more time exploring than fighting waves.

Things definitely get better beginning with level six. There are fewer of those awful gore nest rooms that lock you in a chamber until you defeat all the bad guys.

Good, I mean isn't this what we hated about Destiny? A game just padded out with enemies.

So thus far I've just been confused by the hype.

I was ready to write it off up to level five. It just felt flat. Then, starting in six, the pacing gets better, level design gets better, the story kind of fades from memory. It almost becomes a different game.

It's still not outstanding but it does get better.
