Forums - Movies & TV - First reviews for 'Warcraft' movie (MC: 31/100)

Metacritic: http://www.metacritic.com/movie/warcraft?ref=hp
Rotten Tomatoes: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/warcraft/

60/100 from Hollywood Reporter:

The movie is character-driven every step of the way. That’s why, even if the world created by Jones and his talented design collaborators, both old-school physical and cutting-edge digital, isn’t seamlessly believable so much as staggeringly crafted, it casts a spell.

40/100 from Screen International:

The film takes a long time to build dramatic momentum and gets interrupted by what seem like unnecessary plot points; some of them, perhaps, geared towards potential sequels.

40/100 from The Guardian:

Director Duncan Jones, a self-professed Warcraft fan, has clearly put a lot of love and care into fleshing out a story, but it’s questionable whether it was ever really merited. There’s a terminal flimsiness, as if this virtually-derived world hasn’t quite assumed three dimensions.

40/100 from The Telegraph:

The pristine setting never meshes with Jones’s efforts to give emotional reality to his army of characters, who cannot escape their tropes: leader, hero, warrior woman, mystic.

30/100 from Variety:

So good at making the most outlandish elements of his first two films seem completely credible, Jones can’t find a way to get this cartoony spectacle to soar. His heartfelt approach to the material only underlines the silliness.

10/100 from TheWrap:

Imagine “Battlefield Earth” without the verve and you get this sludgy, tedious fantasy adventure, a fun-starved dud that’s not even unintentionally hilarious.

why? its a bad movie

I've been concerned for quite some time that this could prove to be a huge dud... When you see the full complement of characters and the portion of Warcraft's history they're trying to tell, that's just faaar too much to introduce and do justice for in a single film.

lol, I just realized on the same day their film reviews are coming in at 29 on metacritic atm their game reviews for Overwatch are at 98.

This could be a sign for Blizzard... like stick with games, for instance.

I'll judge the movie by myself. I've been finding myself disagreeing a lot with critics lately.

Hardly any are in yet (4) and one is those 10/100 that seems like it's overly negative to feature on their site. It's possible it could move up closer to 50ish I'd imagine.

It's at 9.0 at imdb atm. At least the fans like the idea of it. Movie hasn't opened yet.
