Forums - General Discussion - Banned from Neogaf for having a different opinion. Am I wrong?

This thread just baiting conflict now.

Right now gaf is only good to lurk and see some gaming news, but I suggest you not to read more than the first post of any thread and don't ever waste time lurking general-politic discussion.

This is basically the same strategy I use in most forums since I rarely post. Reddit too, that place has too much crybabies, so just lurck, never post unless it is essential.

It's fascinating how a desire for a quality website and quality moderation can so quickly devolve into megalomania.

I have seen at least 5 verifiable, demonstrated, screenshotted examples of abuse on NeoGAF, including mockery, favoritism, and racism.

The irony is NeoGAF moderation holds itself in such high esteem (they call themselves "bastions of civil discourse") when in reality they are just as petty and inane as countless other moderation communities.

The best moderators are those who refuse to let power go to their heads, and who do not moderate based on slight deviations from pre-conceived biases.

People don't really care about moderation. It's a thankless job...you're a glorified janitor at best and despised by the community at worst. So why operate like you're a ruler of a kingdom whose opinion is sacrosanct when everyone is completely ambivalent towards you? I don't understand how people can function like that.

Eh, I get banned from vgchartz every so often, and I don't even know why some times. I feel like I see people say way worse stuff but, for all I know, they are getting banned too.

So what? Now you want to continue your debate on another forum and prove "I is right"?

And yeah I think it's a fair ban. GG is the cancer that polarized this industry, it also seems to be lead by Islamophobic neckbeards on youtube(Amazing atheist, Sargon). Racism and Islamophobia are as big if not a bigger issue in online gaming. Even if you make valid arguments, don't expect to be treated on an equal footing in anti-GG dens.

Kinda ridiculous how 2 years later people still waste their time on this chapter of internet drama though.

Amazing Atheist and Sargon are Islamophobic?

Looks like an abuse of power. You had an opinion, stated it respectfully and walked away with your dignity intact. You did nothing wrong.

I imagine I would be banned there just because of my  Username/Avatar, so I hold the community of this site in higher esteem.

That describes moderation pretty much perfectly, at least on this forum.

The tools at our disposal aren't really good enough for us to benefit the site in a greater way than trying to guide discussion, but the way that this forum has been built breeds a more competitive poster. The majority think that you're biased towards a, b or c while making decisions, when in reality (at least in my case), I care for the community itself. Having been here for over 7 years now, I've grown up around people on this forum and built relationships with them.

I think the main advantage we have over other forums in terms of moderation, is that we are more than willing to a) admit our mistakes and b) discuss current moderations with users through the site and email. Moderation reasons are open for users to see and because we're a relatively small community in comparison to other mainstream forums, everyone tends to know eachother.
