Forums - Sony Discussion - I feel like Uncharted 4 is the perfect game for people that alreadly think Uncharted is perfect.

I'm only on chapter 5/6 and it's exceptional so far. Definitely enjoying it even more because I've played the first 3. I only read your title and the first sentence btw to avoid potential spoilers as you're 2/3 chapters ahead

No spoilers thus far.

I honestly thought it was fantastic. The game gets better and better as you progress and the second half is where the game really shines.

Nowadays, I don't mind linear progression as long as gameplay is good. Any good set pieces?

That's the thing, its a good game for story telling, visuals, and stuff like that. But gameplay of this series has never really grabbed partly due to pacing and not so great gunplay. I never found the exploration in this series to be very satisfying either.

Bottom line, I do find myself playing every game in the series because its an overall great product.

That needs to happen. An open-world Uncharted where it's not so much about storytelling, it's about exploration. You go around treasure-hunting, solving puzzles, racing against other treasure hunters, fighting against criminal organizations, and running into locked-away evils.

So in terms of new gameplay mechanics, how is the chest high foliage for stealth implemented? Does it fit in well, like with Shadow of Mordor, or does it feel gimmicky?

Is chest high foliage to 8th gen what the chest high wall was to the 7th gen?

Good question and I gotta say the foilage in this game looks amazing. The foilage is a welcomed addition, but it doesn't add a lot to the gameplay because the game isn't really designed around stealth in a signfiicant way (although there are some notable stealth scenes).

In Shadow of Mordor and the reboot Tomb Raider games, you often sneak into a group of enemies and you often have a lot of space to work with. Thus far in Uncharted 4, its mostly abrupt scenes where enemies pop in and you don't get much space to work with. So its like you hide in some grass or behind a wall and hope they come to you. When you're in open areas that give you room to explore and potentially stealth kill enemies, the only weapons you have make too much noise which means your options are basically limited to strangling a person. Its just not a game desigined around stealth.

In the past I've argued the Tomb Raider 2013 and RotTR are much better in the gameplay department than the Uncharted series, I continue to stand by that right now.

Ya know, people say the new Tomb Raider games are a clone of Uncharted but what you're saying is basically what makes Tomb Raider and Uncharted so different. TR is that open world game that puts more focus on gameplay, exploration, improving your gear, solving puzzles, etc.

If the Uncharted series does continue, that's the direction I want it to go as well.

Really? Gonna need to look into TR then.

Eveeything you mentioned sounds like a copy and paste of uncharted tho.

The reason why uncharted used scenes or chapters is cause if you were to make an open world game where you actually have to travel from location to location exploring and solving puzzles.....well, it won't be uncharted or an action adventure game anymore. it would be an RPG.

Anyways. the way I see uncharted is that it's more about the sum of its parts. the only thing uncharted has really ever excelled in is presentation. But all its gameplay mechanics while ok are above average at best but not great. That's always been the case with uncharted. And I think there is nothing wrong with that.

Oh yeah, those are some of my personal favorite games.

I'll give Uncharted the edge on story telling and characters but I love the gameplay in those Tomb Raider games.
