You need HDMI 1.4 or newer for more than 30 fps, which would be ideal for gaming but not necessary for movies (that usually run at 24-25fps).
Also, like others have mentioned, DVI-HDMI conversion means you won't get audio, there might be some middle solution but if there is, I don't know what that would be exactly.

He's only doing FHD, not 4K so any HDMI will do. But for 4K, yes you need HDMI 1.4 or better.

I have my pc exclusively on my living room TV. I've sold my monitors.

All I did was use hdmi and it's been fine, pretty simple

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

I personally use DVI -> HDMI
and optical for sound into a 5.1 sound system.

Also, make sure to turn off every image quality post processing effect. Otherwise you'll notice a delay on your TV. Some TV's have the option gaming device or something like that.

This has been a nightmare.. I'm at a loss with this this setup. I have tried two tv's on both an active and passive Displayport-hdmi cable and the thing will still not register that it is hooked up. I tried changing resolutions, unhook in the other cables and pretty much what I could go through in the settings. And nothing...

Only getting an output from the vga-dvi adapter

I would make sure that it's the right cable, sounds like the tv is looking for a digital signal through a analog source or vice versa. What settings are your video card on for output?

Not sure but seeing as it is currently hooked up to a vga-dvi adapter then I would assume it's analog?  Maybe thats it then.. :)

I use DVI to HDMI to connect my XB1 to a PC monitor, you should be able to do the same to connect a PC to a TV.

I decided to follow that sound advice.  Getting too angry with the other stuff. Should arrive in the mail today and will check immediately after work,  if this can do it.  :)

Yes, HDMI is compatible with DVI-D and DVI-I, the latter using digital signal, and it's incompatible with DVI-A. It's very likely that a recent computer has a DVI-I interface, to maximise compatibility, so it's also possible that in the GPU settings an analog DVI output is still selected, as it was the right one for connection to VGA with a simple adapter.
