Need technical assistance with PC to TV connections

Only getting an output from the vga-dvi adapter

I would make sure that it's the right cable, sounds like the tv is looking for a digital signal through a analog source or vice versa. What settings are your video card on for output?

Not sure but seeing as it is currently hooked up to a vga-dvi adapter then I would assume it's analog?  Maybe thats it then.. :)
