Wich is what i always said. HD games don't grow on trees. They take a long time and big teams to be delivered in a timely fashion.

You said they were going to delay from 2016 to March 2017? Amazing.

I said that there was no way they would have games ready for 2016. So, that date was always unrealistic.

This is just the "safe" answer.. It means nothing.. like a politician answer

If its becourse they get better hardware prices/stock..
or becourse they want Sony to launch PSVR first..
How the yen/finance stands.. some content deals.. or lots of other things..

He would still choose "we want as many games ready"

It's just kotaku pulling stuff out of their asses again.

I think the hardware is the main problem. Probably Nintendo is going with 14 nm by AMD and they just can't deliver enough chips until the holidays as they also have to make chips for all those shiny new PS4Ks. Chances are Sony paid more and gets the chips earlier. But, well, that's just me pulling stuff out of my ass. Anyway, I think we'll never know for sure what exactly happened. No point in speculating about it.

A quote from it:

"When asked why Nintendo wasn’t launching the NX in time for this year’s big holiday season, Kimishima explained that Nintendo wanted to make sure there were games to go along with the NX."

Nintendo is haveing trouble with the games.... and its going to cost them the Holiday sales for their console.

Ouch.

What do you guys think? this sounds plausible?

That is not at all what is said. You're fabricating facts. It's maybe not just about the launch games, but to ensure a steady flow of games throughout the years following the launch.

Nah, the 3DS and PS3 both released in March, so I doubt that's a big problem. Plus, March is the end/beginning of the financial year in Japan, so another reason it's there is probably for convenience in that aspect.

two systems known for their terrible launch sales i like your thinking

Does it really matter? I mean, when is the last time Nintendo had enough consoles at launch? If the NX comes out over the holidays, it's really only going to benefit scalpers on eBay. Sure, they lose holiday software sales, but they also avoid fighting with EA, Activision, Sony, and Microsoft for prime advertising spots.

3DS and Wii U?

Skipping the holidays is like playing Mario Kart and skipping a free giant booster.

No way.  We had thread after thread from people swearing that their local Walmart was sold out of the Wii U at launch.

Let's not pretend that you or team 2017 were talking about 3-4 months. When people guess a date, you give or take a few months. You're not predicting the exact month, but a time frame. I went on record in the "do you want to go on record" thread with my prediction saying exactly "Holiday 2016 up until March 2017" and I saw a few others doing the same. Because that's when the fiscal year ends, and it's within a few months of the 2016 holidays.
Team 2017 were all about holiday 2017 or beyond, because they were of the belief that there would be a decent amount of quality games coming out for WiiU until then. A belief that's looking more and more unlikely every day.

Anyway, if they have a launch lineup ready for March, then Nov-Dec 2016 was never unrealistic. Again, you weren't talking about just a few months. Because that would be impossible for you to gauge unless you know exctly when they started developing NX games, and how long those games take to develop.
Here's what I observed though. Nintendo didn't start a single new quality project for WiiU since early 2014 at the latest (the titles they showed at E3 that year). And that holds true to this day, with the possible exception of Paper Mario. (Some people debate whether it is a quality/ambitious title or not. I wouldn't know.)

Do they? Have a bunch of titles ready for launch? Because i still have doubts. Only Zelda and rumors of Wii U ports so far.

It was very easy to tell. Its 2 year cycles minimum to develop an HD title. You just had to count 2 years from each teams last released title and add extra for developing tools for the new system. Rocket science? No. Just common sense. Remember to count DLC development aswell.

Your 2016 line-up would consist of rushed buggy titles. That is why it got delayed and that s what i always said. And i still think that march is still very optimistic of them. We will see what they have. As far as i remember they have 2 teams that can deliver a launch title besides Zelda. 3D mario team and retro.

That would make sense. It wouldn't matter if they released it for the holidays if it had no games to go with it. We don't need another Wii U launch. They have to make this one count, so no prob if they have to push it back to have a better line up. I feel like it could be better this way. And there's always next holiday to get more sales.

Er...this sort of thing has happened in the past so not really a huge concern (yet).

You know, when you read this

and think how close have Koei Tecmo and Nintendo worked together this last gen, the lack of software seems like the obvious cause of the delay.

And also makes you wonde what the f*ck has been Nintendo doing if KT are now starting to develop NX games.
