I'm guessing that most of the assets for TxSF are pretty much 360/PS3 era and aren't going translate well to current generation hardware.

What have you except? 2D fighting games are way easier to design and develop than real 3D fighting games like Tekken or Dead or Alive.

I dont think it would be smart for Namco to put all this money into an IP they couldnt own, they rather would spent the money for a new Soul Calibur game which would be a smarter move.
But at least Tekken 7 will have Akuma
