Devs aren't allowed to do that.

So devs are going to be forced to make a superior PS4.5 version?

Yes, currently as we know it, if all the leaks are true, yes they are forced to support a ps4k model, and 1080p is a MUST ON the ps4k.(minimum resolution required for ps4k version)

Plus even if the versions are on par, barring any weird unforeseen bottlenecks introduced by getting the orginal ps4 version running smootgly,  technically the ps4k will run superior.

So devs, upset at having to make two ps4 versions, are going to devote all their time to the Xbox with a much smaller install base and weaker hardware because it's easy to port it from the PC version?

Uh-huh.

What I took from the Neo stuff is that the Neo version can't be "worse" than the base PS4 game, not that it necessarily has to be better. I don't think Sony is going to abandon Indie devs after highlighting them so much over the last 3 years.

That's what I took as well.  At the very least, lots of developers will make the same version for both.

It will not be 2 ports for PS4 and PS4.5. I've seen this a few times. It's not developing for 2 different systems.. Its the same game with better optimizations for the PS4.5. Considering so many games are downgraded (optimized) to run better on the PS4 it would just allow developers to have a little better game on the PS4.5. And as of right now the Xbox Dev Kit mode is only for APPS.. We will not be seeing "games" for a long time, if EVER.

Optimization is not the same as downgrading. Optimizing is converting or modifying whatever part of the game in a way that it works better with the console. Sometimes that actually means converting something to a more complex, larger format because even though it's more complex, it the system processes that format in a faster way than it does the other, simpler format. For example, it could also mean converting all of your audio to a larger, uncompressed format because uncompressing the audio on the fly is taking too much memory.  But sometimes your game runs poorly because you've overshot your memory budget and in order to get that down you might need to simplify, reduce, or downsample assets.  This "downgrading" can be a part of oprimization. it's only a part of optimization work, not the whole thing.

Every system has it's stengths and bottlenecks, and modifying your game to take advantage of those strengths and minimize the bottlenecks is what optimization is truly about.

Not to mention this easy to port games from PC to Xbox thing is crap anyway as every developer is refusing to touch UWP with a barge pole as there not gonna drop steam or Windows 7 anytime soon.

The entire original post is also assuming that the PS4.5 is actually real and coming to market, which it is still not true. Even the article linked with Ken Levine said it "would be" a pain in the ass IF IT WAS REAL. Yet another among thousands of internet threads assuming these stupid rumors are coming true when there's nothing real about it yet. I can't wait for E3 so people can shut the hell up about all this nonsense.

I enjoy Xbox as much as anyone else, and I think they have plenty of opportunities to do some catching up this gen, but I don't think it'll be related to a "new console" from Sony.

Firstly, it didn't take Microsoft 3 years to reverse the reveal backlash. It took a year, if that.

Besides that, how would PS4K give Microsoft an advantage?

Right, but MS fanbois fantasize that MS will "turn the tables" and take the lead vs Sony,
obviously since they haven't done that yet, means the "reveal backlash" is still unfairly impeding them etc... (victim/persecution complex)
LIkewise they lionize X360's reign ignoring that PS3 surpassed it in sales even with PS3's major handicaps's.
(and given PS's stronger global brand, their higher price disproportionately hurt them in markets poorer than US)

But the OP story is BS... Only requirement for PS4K "version" of games is that it achieves 1080p at same/higher FPS.  That's it.  Easy.
Win10mode is absurd, it means the games aren't close to console optimized, so it's not relevant fo the bread & butter console games.
Basically it's applicable to indy games that won't push optimization boundaries anyways.  And good for them...
(albeit it's doubtful if they want to tie themselves to Win10 and exclude Steam etc)
But that isn't going to reverse global 2:1 sales lead (current 3:1 sales lead, 2:1 in US alone).  None of MS's big games have changed anything.
EVEN IF PS4K was very hard to optimize for/ full optimization was required/ it was a totally new platform architecture,
devs would go along because the install base and current sales justify spending TWICE (and soon 3X) the amount on Sony optimizations as MS if necessary.

Devs will just release the one version for PS4 and say well it runs on PS4.5 so that is fine. Only a few real big games and Son'y 1st party will bother full upgrading games to the PS4.5 specs.

Devs aren't allowed to do that.

Except only requirement is 1080p (which some PS4 already achieve) and same/higher FPS.  Anything else is up to dev.  Blowing smoke much?

Yes! Disrupt their shit!!!!

Before believing any of this, we first need proof of a PS4.5 or PS4K or whatever it's being called... Microsoft aren't in a position to disrupt Sony's "console reign" if this device doesn't even exist... can't people just wait until AFTER E3 to see if this thing is even real before making silly claims...

People in VGChartz seems to love that.

They think every rumor is true and write a fucking essay.

Lol.
