I really think all the PS4K will be is a PS4 that allows proper 4K output at 60hz. It'll have a 2.0a HDMI for HDR too and maybe an ultraHD blu ray player. This will be to make Sony a force in the ultraHD blu ray player world as they didn't announce once this year unlike Panasonic and I think Samsung

I agree 100%, I think gaming websites have done their usual run off lots of stories, copy other peoples rumour mills. I believe the console is to support 4k TV's because sales of those TV's are increasing, so why not try to have a device that supports it, in fact the original rumours for the console was that it would support 4k tv. I actually dont think it has that much to do directly with gaming, it might have a slightly better performance, but it will still have only 8gb ram etc 9 (imo).

I think that if they do provide some enhanced specs it'll purely be to make sure it can output 4K 60hz video properly without slow down. Any additionaly GPU or CPU power will be locked away from developers, effectively giving it the exact specs for games as the current PS4. Sony aren't about to throw away the loyalty of around 40m PS4 owners. They're already the most powerful console so there isn't any need to improve, only to keep up with pc's but that isn't going to happen anyway with a moderate increase in performance.

It's in their interest to have a large gap between PS4 and PS5 (if there is one) too, it'll give them a big selling point as it always does.

If true i go PC only, i dont want upgrade my ps4 when i already do on my PC.

See, this guy gets it!

Consoles should be differnt from PC's.

I only see the APU shrinking to 14nm, maybe some clock speed increases.

The one thing I think Sony is being disingenuous about with this whole process is they weren't open about new hardware models/upgradability from the get go.

I think the people who bought a PS4 early on deserved to know a high spec version could been released just a couple of years in and/or there should've been a way to upgrade the existing PS4.

I don't have a problem with multiple hardware models, but you should be clear with the consumer that that is your business model from day 1.

Basically hardware generations are over now I guess?

I am happy to hear this. Day one for me if I could play at 1080/60. You can still play on the pleb4 at 1080/30.
Think of all of the console wars between different models and brands :).

I know friends who want a cheaper PS4, so if they can get a PS4 for $ 199 ill be happy. While I want higher spec and 60 fps.

exactly!  It will lower the price and get them even more sales of the low spec base ps4.  Hitting 100million sales in this 6 year gen will be EZ for them.

PS5 should release in 3 years.

How did rumors about console hardware capable of outputting up to native 4K turn into "OMG my current console is obsolete?' I am floating around other game sites and seeing similar mentality. I don't understand. It is just like on a PC, you put in a game and the hardware detection sets graphics based on system performance. So you go buy a game and if you have the original PS4 you get standard resolution and graphics, if you have PS4K it defaults to a higher resolution and unlocks other features. It is the same disk. Nothing is different. Software has worked like this for several decades. How is it that people are making the leap to 'the current PS4 is now worthless and they won't make games for it in the future!'

Is it that up until now the argument in favor of consoles has long been that all console gamers are on the same playing field, but with another option it'll become, 'oh you don't have PS4K, haha, you are playing on inferior hardware. I am better than you!'

Sure, some people have more disposable income than other people and if they can upgrade, or people like me who haven't bought the PS4 might be given an incentive. I guess I don't see how this is anything but good. It opens up another revenue stream by enticing existing or new users to get a PS4K. Especially those on PC hardware who are used to those added graphical features. And when we are dealing with 8-year console cycles it keeps things more interesting. There is always room for PS4K 2 at some point down the line with even more features.

But I think the complaints center around what I said above. A portion of console users will now have to fight over who has the better console, only this time it will be in the same family Xbone 1 vs Xbone 4K/ PS4 vs PS4K. Or it is entitlement. That other people have the better thing that I can't afford so they are my enemy.

Well fuck.
I just bought a PS4 4-5 months ago. Story of my life.

I dont think Sony will be stupid enough to pull a New 3DS.

Wait before crying , we have no real informations for now, it could very well be only a new PS4 model like there have been new PS3 model

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

I think from now on, Sony will release a new console every year. It will be like smartphones.

This sounds like a much larger hardware gap than the 3DS - New 3DS is.
