Forums - Movies & TV - J.J. Abrams: "I'd Welcome Gay Characters In STAR WARS"

Do you think there should  be seperate standards for portraying gay characters than ther are for straight characters?  If no, you should have no problem with gay characters in Star Wars.  If yes, you have a problem with gay characters. Simple question.

Nope. Hence why a character being gay or straight shouldn't be in the open a star wars film. Straight characters in general don't really annouce who they tend to sleep with. That should be the same with gay characters but we wouldn't know they were gay unless it was pointed out in the movie or story. Then again, that wouldn't be treating them like the straight characters if they did point out their sexuality.

Not exactly what I was asking, but let's go with it anyway.

No, there are no Star Wars characters who scream out "I'M STRAIGHT".  But there are Star Wars characters who freely and openly state of show their attraction to the opposite sex.  Like for instance... Luke Skywalker... and Princess Leia... and Han Solo... and Anakin Skywalker... and Queen Amadala... and Jar Jar Binks...and Lando...  and Jaba The Hut... and Uncle Owen... and pretty much all the main characters aside from asexual droids or celibate jedi.

There are many openly straight characters in the movies.  So, if you think they should not be portrayed differently, then there is no reason why there shouldn't be openly gay characters as well.

No thanks. That's pretty pointless.

What makes it pointless?

Shoving in gay characters just because it's the PC thing to do nowadays.

Actually, you're just assuming all of those characters are openly straight. They never actually brought up the sexuality topic and so no one actually knows. Any of them could be gay or bisexual. There's absolutely no reason why anyone's sexuality should have to be out in the open for it to count. WIth progressives or the trends as of late, a gay character is not a gay character unless it's out in the open at the very least and sometimes has to be flaring for extra empthasis.

The only reason why they had Anakin and Padme's relationship in the movie is to because they are the parents of Luke and his sister which is vital to the main story of star wars. Any other characters' relationships were never shown because it's not important and star wars is not Game of Thrones or Sparticus where sex in general is a big part of it.

Why should a character be known as gay when none of the characters' sexuality hasn't been known? Why the special treatment?

I am really tired of this shit already.

It's getting worse.

The left has degenerated debate on every topic to sex, race and sexuality.
Anita Sarkeesian ("Everything is sexist, everything is racist, everything is homophobic and you have to point it all out" and her marxist ilk are winning.

Anyone see the movie Idiocracy? That is where we are going.

This shouldn't be a problem. Even an 3000 years old Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh agrees with it.

I concur.  I hate it when writers and directors acknowledge the existence of gay people.

I hate it when they acknowledge sexual orientation? Just make the black dude gay if you have that big of a deal... since he's at least aboard already...

It'd be funny if it turned out all the Jedi were gay.

oh ok that's cool. What's important is that the movie is good. I'm also very confused by the anger in the comments here

I agree about being confused about the anger in the comments here. I also think a gay character is just fine, whether they add them or not I dont care.
