Forums - Sony Discussion - Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Review Thread - MC: 75/ GR: 75.71%

For a person who was never into Digimon I'd say the game is a solid 8/10. If I was a fan of Digimon though that score would probably go up to 9.5/10. The game seems to be a Digimon fans dream game.

I haven't finished the game yet, but it's currently a 9 to me. The game completes me. After almost 2 decades of playing Pokemon, this game is a breath of fresh air. Black/White was suppose to be a game to cater to the older fans of the series, but it was still the same Pokemon game. Cyber Sleuth was made with the same intentions and delivered. Hope more mature Digimon games(Cyber Sleuth 2?) continue to be made for the older folk.

User score is a 9 on metacritics.
Everyone here seems to love it too.

Is it just Metacritic reviewers being to hard on it?

Big and famous franchises get a better chance.
Digimon doesn't (even as it's fairly famous, anime wise) nor does the biggest chunk of average sized developer games from Japan.

Well lets be honest the small to mid sized Japanese franchises are often pretty niche, even in Japan based on some of their charts. So it's not surprising they don't score too highly.

But is that fair?

That the reviewers score the games instead of actual gameplay, but by "brand power" of the franchies and characters in them?

That seems to be what your all saying is happending.

Meanwhile users that play the game all seem to think its much better than the score the reviewers are giveing it.

Bra you play this one yet? I want Next Order a lot more then this one...

Objectively the game is not that good.

But it's enjoyable af and as a strong visual identity. I'm having tons of fun with it but thought it was because I'm a huge digimon fanboy (though i prefer "world" franchise over the "story" franchise)

Digimon world ds and digimon dusk for ds I believe got Lower scores than that and I still enjoyed them a lot.
Scores really don't matter in the end, I love digimon, so I loved the games when they were well done. Simple as that, can't wait to get this one and the one they announced recently too.

Those scores are kind of low. For me it's a 9/10. It's brilliant, addicting and one of the most beautiful Vita games I've played. It combines the addictiveness of the monster collecting and raising system of Pokemon, the fun and depth of the battle system of the persona series and a very interesting and satisfying story. My only complaints are the monster managing(digivolution, obtaining new digimon, and the like) limited to just one area(the digilab), but it's not much of a problem since they do put the booths everywhere in the world, another is the lack of info on your current objective; you can't view your objective on the options menu and you'd have to go back to a certain area to review your objectives, and the last one concerns the battle system and how inconsistent and confusing the element system is - unlike in most games the element of your attack or magic determines the weakness or resistance but here, it's the attribute and type of your digimon AND the type of your attack. So it the attribute of your digimon is weak against the attribute of your opponent then your attack will still have reduced damage even if the element of your attack is the weakness of your opponent. Something like that. I'm sure I'm still missing some explanation there LOL.

Seems like a pretty solid game to me.

Very good for a digimon game. My favorite digimon game- the first digimon world got a 5.8% iirc
