Until they release VR, you didn't call shit.

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

VR is stupid.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I think if anybody could make VR easily accessible, it would be Nintendo. Everyone keeps pointing to Virtual Boy but keep in mind that was a prototype. It was an unfinished product that was rushed to market because of Nintendo's increased involvement with the "Ultra 64". I'm not saying it would have been much better but it wouldn't be the Virtual Boy that was released. I'd kill for a VR Zelda game.

Really? Nintendo is the worst of the current gaming heavy weights at hardware..

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Didn't they already do that with the Virtual Boy?

If they did that for their next console then I wouldn't buy it. No interest in 'vr' whatsoever. Wouldn't matter if it had Pokemon. Wouldn't even matter if they were selling it for $1. I wouldn't buy it.

Even if it was similar to PSVR and you have the option to turn their next console into a VR console. Would you buy the Base unit knowing your paying for some tech you won't use?

We all pay for 7.1 sound tech, in everything that has audio. I never use anything higher than stereo. So that argument is moot. If the next console works on a TV screen, like normal. And is the only option. I'd buy it and never use the VR. Just like if all TV sets were only avalible in 3D. I wouldn't use the option.

At...home consoles maybe. Not handhelds. And that shouldn't even matter. VR is a totally new area of focus. Alan Kay once said, "People who are really serious about software [i.e. Nintendo], should make their own hardware". That's been Nintendo's philosophy for so long. Once they stop making hardware of any kind, the company won't be the same. They're really serious about software and their fans are really serious about buying their software. Nintendo has pioneered many standards in gaming and they've made some of the worst ideas in gaming but what makes them strong is the fact that they always at least try to get back up. I think Nintendo could put a fun twist on VR like nobody else can. Where everyone sees VR as a porn or horror, Nintendo could somehow introduce something that we didn't think we wanted. With VR you have to be innovative. It could be a huge success or bite Nintendo's buns.

I'm not the type to wail on a console just because it's not selling well. It's not a healthy mindset for the gaming industry. Let me remind you, Nintendo was also the "worst of the current gaming heavy weights at hardware" during the 6th gen. It was beat by a newcomer! And then 7th gen happened and completely obliterated handheld and home console competitors. I'm a Nintendo fan and I'm a Sony fan. I love Sony hardware. But being part Nintend fan, I've learned Never to count them out. It's not wise and investors know that. True, Wii U is selling like hot shit right now but, it would be foolhardy to mark them off for two bad...well, one bad console and a half finished experimental console. I might sound like a Nintendo preacher right now but I'd do the same for Sony. Not so much MS but I love their Windows OS :D I just don't think it's wise to count Nintendo out of technology like this.

im pretty open minded on this. I'm kinda interested in VR because I've experienced hints of it in theme parks and I would like to see how it can be implemented at home or on the go. I think we, as core or casual gamers, should at least be open to such ideas as it can potentially bring video games to different heights. If it was just traditional controllers and hardware for the next decade or so, it would feel like the industry would become stagnant and it would just be marginal graphical improvements...That's why I appreciated the DS and Wii because they provided unique gameplay experiences (touch screen and motion controls) while providing some of the best games of their generation, even of all-time. There's nothing wrong in trying something that can create something new and push for new ideas that may have never been possible even on today's consoles.

I agree. Nintendo has the experience points. They just need to evolve. VR, theme parks, moblie, it's all a part of the transformation. That's why I'm so excited about Nintendo's future because you never know what to expect. And they're aren't going to give you crap. I mean, we had some poor software as of late, AC: AMiibo Festival I'm looking at you. But, if Nintendo doesn't try something new, they won't be the same. I'll know what to expect and gaming will become as you said, stagnant and only boast graphical improvements. That may work for...some time. But eventually the graphical improvements will be so minor, there won't be any difference between the PS9 and PS10. Or Wii X/Xbox 8. That's a scary thought for me. Things like VR and NX concept ideas keep me excited because we don't know what this thing could be.
