Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Attempts and Fails to Trademark “Let’s Play”

They tried but possibility of confusion may have stopped their effort:

The filing, which was filed in October last year, surfaced a few days ago through a NeoGAF member, and has since been denied by the USPTO on grounds of “likelihood of confusion,” due to a similar mark already being trademarked. Thanks to a trademarked service LP Let’z Play, Sony was denied.

- apparently Sony still can try something, if there is something to try:

Sony now has six months from the decision’s issue date, which was December 29, to address the refusal, providing “evidence as to why the refusal should be withdrawn.”

So yeah, if it weren't for the existing patent, Sony could have scored this one.

Why did they even try? -___-

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Youtube users are going to be mad if sony gets it

Nintendo should have gotten it. I would have died happy!

Well, that's pretty damn surprsing!

Even if they successfully trademarked the words they can't remove it from Youtube video titles, or even if they would.

Every video game that has been published has their name trademarked yet you can put it in video titles.

They must be launching some 'lets play' service on PS4 and wanted to trademark it so microsoft can't do the same and call it 'Xbox Let's play'.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

I think some people are confused what the trademark actually is for. It's not to stop people using it.

They almost got it though so it could have made sense, for whatever they wanted it.

I doubt Sony would dive themselves into that shit-pile, so I guess they wanted to prevent something, or take advantage of something, maybe.
