A while ago I polled users here asking them how they access the forum threads - using the forums or just taking a look at the Hot Topics "preview" on the front page - and a lot of them said they only resorted to the front page:

It was a very one-sided result.

It is nice and all to say people should go to the forums to check on all the available threads they may be interested in reading and posting but the truth is that, if users don't want to, they won't go there.

So "If the mountain won't come to Muhammad then Muhammad must go to the mountain".

Right now only 16 threads are displayed on the Hot Topics at the front page. There is still some room down there for the N4G section to be pushed down, even if just a little, by adding more threads on the front page. I am thinking 10 more threads at the front page but just by having some more the situation would be better.

If more threads are on display at the front page I am sure there will be more posts, more clicks, more chances for new threads to be seen by users and not vanish into oblivion, and more disussions going on which would benefit the website.

Anyways, my two cents.

Easy solution: remove hot topics from the page and replace it with latest topics. That way people who visit the homepage will always see the newest threads.

I've said it from the beginning that the hot topic "algorithm" is stupid and absolute poison for the discussion and activity on the forum. It gives bigger threads the ability to kill new threads within minutes which is the reason why a lot of threads do not even gain more than 3 posts. It's mindbogglingly stupid.

I mean for god's sake, it's so bad that if you want to make sure that your thread even gets noticed you have to post in the North American hours to make sure it's not already buried once the majority of the people hits the forum. That's the main reason I blame that the forum is absolutely thread starved between 6am-4pm UTC.

All this wouldn't be an issue if we simply would give all posts a fair chance and not just the 10 most popular. We don't need the 10 biggest threads who people are visiting anyways to be on the front page all the time while smaller threads are being killed instantly!

With Latest topics all new threads would stay on the home page for at least half a day instead of just a few minutes.

REMOVE THE FUCKING HOT TOPICS ALREADY!

edit: and the thread is already gone from the front page just an hour later. And it's not even rush hour. This is ridiculous.

Totally get you. At least now I know I am not the only one aware and concerned with this.

I guess I'm the minority because I check the forum tabs and barely check the Hot Topics from the main page...
